Very nice. Bit of a psychedelic vibe there. One to drift away with.

Lovely song, and made better knowing it's based on real life.
There's no weak spots, but I particularly enjoyed the solo(s).

Just listened to Josh Turner doing a cover of Nick Drake's song: Road

When you say you changed the pitch, do you mean you pitch shifted the recording afterwards? That often creates a slightly artificial sound (which is what it sounds like). Apologies if this is just you singing in a higher key.

Good love and sunshine are definitely a cure for many ills. And help whether they cure or not!
I like the cheeky lyrics and pointed comments, it's got attitude! And a sing-a-long factor for the chorus.
Nice job. And very timely!

Hit the mark with the dance vibe, right on there.
My ears can't really make out the lyrics clearly, so if you'd like comments on those, please post the lyrics here, but perhaps they're secondary in this track anyways.
There's enough v…

Leo Fender, whose name is now synonymous with guitars, never played one himself!

That's really poignant and nostalgic and melancholy. The guitar picking adds to the moody, sparse atmosphere
With your chorus I'd be tempted to stretch out the "crier" progressively turning it into a wail.
eg Crier, Cri-er, We need a …

Strong opening with that guitar chord, puts some weight into the music strengthening your message.
Whole thing is really nicely put together.

Lovely pure voice!

Rob have you tried collaborating with a lyricist? Setting someone else's words to music? Or getting them to expand on your ideas? Just a thought and it's not for everybody, but could be a way to get the best of two worlds.

I thought of this one today, so I'll add it to the list: Star Trekking Across the Universe

The music is strong. You have some real skills there. The ending is pretty abrupt though!
For me the lyric is light on. You mention ancient wisdom, but that's not coming across to me. I don't really know what you are trying to convey. But s…

Got a lovely sweet feeling to it. Innocent and not, at the same time.
If it were mine I'd probably put it in a major key, but that's a personal choice.
"Your eyes a little twinkly" that's nice!
I like how some words stretch out…

Great story driven song! I like 'Catholic whiskey', I haven't seen that used before.
The rhyming scheme in the verse doesn't work for me, though it may well do for others. I found myself wanting the 2nd+4th lines to rhyme, that seemed to be…

Oh yeah! That's a powerful song!

I'm not familiar with Ren, so this has been a good find for me, I'll certainly be listening to some more. Thanks for posting those Matt!

Yes, it would be the organ I was thinking of. As you noted, you're going to get different opinions on all these matters, so using your own discretion is always advised!

A lot probably comes down to the ability to execute within a given style. I think any style done well can be enjoyed, but some may be harder to pull off than others!
-
Wonderful lyric! Really like that.
Certainly one that would benefit from a full production, but the song itself is all there.
-
That's really cool that the Singapore school used it!
Driven along by those guitar riffs- that's what caught my ear the most. If you'd like some comments on the lyric, it would be helpful if you could post them here - but sometimes lyrics …

What a fantastic thread! And one I could never have posted myself. Thanks for going to the effort of creating all those links too, I've already used a couple of them! Now you've got me wondering how many songs went the other way! I think "Those w…

Can't go wrong with an upbeat Rolling Stones number! That's a good one Joseph!

@RainbowKeeper OMG schnappy the crocodile! That made me laugh out loud. This thread has been worth it …

Very relevant in our modern world!
I'd be tempted to ease off the synths in the verses, I feel they're taking up too much of the audio space. I think it's a better mix when you get to : Can we resign ourselves. There's a re…

Sorry Sid! Lost as part of the prev version of the site I think.

Thanks for posting these Joseph! I just listened to that Toto track and really enjoyed it. Hadn't heard that before. 😁

I agree with you that a song should intentionally communicate something, but that doesn't have to be a narrative story. It might be an emotion, or a mood/atmosphere. And a lot of the latter can be carried musically rather than by the lyric. The c…
