The powerful, majestic lion

Crowned king of the jungle,

Even the mightiest will fall

Reduced down by a single thorn

Our demons, can possess us.

Weakens us, when out of control.

Even the mightiest, are not immune.

Diminished by, a single thorn.

St. Jerome and the lion, a parable

Of overcoming, fear and adversity

When the mighty, becomes weak 

And the weak, becomes strong

A saint, a recluse, by design

Invisible, in his cave, lost in study

Sounds, of anguish, from outside

Breaks concentration, losing his focus

We often, hide behind, our demons

Disappearing, behind a, thin mask

Allowing, us to give, the illusion

Of something, we are not

The bright sun, reduces his vision

As the saint, emerges from the dark

Face to face, with a mighty beast

Steadfast, he stands, tall and strong

We are all, blinded by our own fears,

And insecurities, lost in the light.

Like St. Jerome, we can overcome,

Our own fears, and adversities.

Without fear and with compassion

St. Jerome removes the thorn

From the paw of the giant beast
