Go on and Cry
Hi Everyone... I know that a few of you can't distinguish between a cover or anything else when it comes to AI, so I'm not looking for comments on the production values. I just want to know if you like the song or not.
It is a cover of my song, "Go On And Cry". It's a cynical point of view on our politicians, in general.
Let me know what you think.
“Go On and Cry”
Words & Music By Tom Tognaci
V1
Hey, what’s that you said?
What you gonna do when they kick you out of bed?
Say what! Come again?
What you gonna do when the big man hauls you in?
You say that’s nothing new
But what you gonna do when the hammer falls on you?
Well…you’re going to cry a lie
And you’ll make some fool hearts weep
But gator tears are sly
Go on and cry
V2
Hey, what’s that you said?
Just let them eat cake if they’re running out of bread
Say what! Now, come again?
You got your megaphone and the press core’s listening in
You say nothing that’s new
But what you gonna do when the ink gets spilled on you
Well…you’re going to cry a lie
And you’ll make some fool hearts weep
But gator tears are sly
Go on and cry
V3
A big shot, a fat cat
You keep your nails clipped and your cash in the laundromat
Say what! Now, come again?
There’s no telling what kind of dirt your hands been in
You say that’s nothing new
But what you gonna do when your white wash launders you
Well…you’re going to cry a lie
And you’ll make some fool hearts weep
But gator tears are sly
Go on and cry

Well... it is my song. It's a cover!
Thanks. I've always endeavored, in my writing, to marry the melody, atmosphere and attitude with the lyrics I build in the creation of a melody..

Thanks, guys! I appreciate it!

Love the country feel. I feel the hook could be expressed in a sharper way. In a way that distinguishes itself.

Thanks for commenting, Franswa.
Sharper, hu?
It's very much how I wrote it. I don't know how sharp your definition of sharp is. Any sharper just might turn this into an outright angst song.
I think I prefer subtlety.

Excellent song Tom! Very catchy, very polished feel, as well as having some teeth!

Nice cover, it gives the song a special final color!!! and of course, the song is great, with or without Ai.

I hate that I love this LOL.
Great song, and you seem to have bent Suno to your will in covering your own work. That catchy riff sets the tone for the song.

You are the best, M
Thanks
It is awesome to hear my song in this light. I get together with "Spaghetti Man" and he is a true AI whisperer.
Watching his fingers fly, coming up with the most outlandish que prompts that are, to me, unimaginable.
I love the results.
Thanks, Gavin!

wooow what a great song. I always love your stuff anyway but this one's got me on my feet. Just curious, how much of the original non AI song is in this? Is that your real voice? Are you playing any instruments on this version? AI cover, interesting, can you post the original for perspective?

Hey there subvibe... it is amazing to be able to hear our music in a light that is only mostly imagined.
Thanks for listening and commenting
Hey there Stoneflower, You be the judge as to how much of my original was covered faithfully. And, of course, that is not my voice, or any of the playing... besides, I hate my singing voice. I'm so grateful that I can cover my songs without the hundreds it used to cost me.
Thanks for stopping by!
Here is the original: https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14527131

I like the music in the ai version and your vocals in your original version. I would stem out the music in the AI version and sing over that. The original is catchy, but the guitars are not strong.

I've been struggling with my vocals for years... those days have passed I'm happy to say!

Everybody is their own critic 😂, There is nothing wrong with your vocals. I don't think Bod Dylan or Neil Young have that great of vocals, had a co-worker disagree. it's all a matter of subjectivity

Just an added perspective on A.I. covers. When I tell Suno.ai to cover a song, the result is still my vocal melody with only minor variations you might expect in a cover. The instrumental melody is still as faithful to my own, with the exception that there is a sliding scale device that lets me tell it how faithful to the original I want it to be. No matter where I set that, it remains faithful to the basic 'tune' that I originally wrote. (Think "Red Red Wine" as done by Neil Diamond, then covered by "Pet Shop Boys). In the cover, my own poor choices that are out of key get fixed. My own poor choices where I violate music theory and chord structure are fixed. Now there is a caveat. If I ask Suno to cover an instrumental, I get some real variations that I wouldn't expect and I don't feel like it stays faithful to what I originally wrote. Also, when I originally experimented with A.I. the vocals were not good. Without exception, there were bad artistic choices that I felt I needed to sing my own version in (after separating instrumental from vocals with a separate software - which can now be done on the Suno) to keep the song reasonably my own. Lately, I've been keeping about a third of the vocal versions on covers, and either not adding my voice, or adding my own voice as either lead (making the A.I. version the backup, or as backup to the A.I. voice. FWIW. . . I won't post any A.I. on this site until some possible future time when the emotion about it dies down a little.

Hey my friend thanks for the in depth follow up. As I understand it the AI apps are constantly changing, apparently for the better. I haven't started using it yet so thanks for clarifying.

This has been a fascinating thread, but not necessarily for the right reasons. There has been an incredibly interesting discussion, but seemingly lost in the shuffle is the reality that Tom posted an incredibly good song, and the discussion hasn't for the most part been about THAT. I've been listening to Tom's songs for at least ten years, and they are uniformly good. This one might have been the best I've heard, but the discussion veers off into whether he has the right to allow A.I. to create a version of what clearly is HIS song or not. We might want to re-examine what we're here for. The value of the forum depends upon us remembering that we are here to critique how GOOD the songs are. Discussions about how we should be allowed to make them good belong in the "other discussions" area, not in this one.

Hey there Hardtwist.... the biggest problem, I have, is that even though the covers are marvelous, the lack of interest is a bit crushing.
And that's all over the internet. But it is what it is... No one wants to hear the whining 😎
