Santa's Having a Heart Attack
A little something for Christmas...

SANTA'S HAVING A HEART ATTACK
Santa's having a heart attack
Coming down that chimney
Santa's having a heart attack
That sack of toys was too heavy
Santa's having a heart attack
Now he's covered in soot and crawling from the fireplace
to die under the Christmas tree
[Verse 2]
Santa's having a heart attack
But the reindeer don't know CPR
Yeah, he's having a heart attack
Even Rudolph's nose can't make his heart
start
He's having a heart attack
His bloated body will be the sole memory
of Christmas morning under that tree
[Verse 3]
You see, Santa's heart could not survive the stress of Christmas Day
So many toys to deliver, it's so DAMN hard to drive that sleigh
All the greedy children wanting presents along the way
He had a heart attack in the U.S.A.
[Verse 4]
Santas Having a heart attack
He started shouting at the elves
They kept eating all the candy canes and
those toys don't make themselves!
He's Having a heart attack
Now the sleigh bells stopped ringing,
the choir stopped singing,
the cookies sit uneaten on the shelves
[Outro]
It's gonna be a sad day for boys and girls all over the world
'Cause Santa's having a heart attack
Coming down that chimney
He's having a heart attack
He got stuck and blocked that smoke you see
And his beard will catch on fire and burn his red suit and
make it harder for the elves to retrieve his body
(Ho, ho, ho)
(Oh, oh, oh)
On Donner, on Blitzen, on Comet, on Cupid, on
Ohhhhhhhhhhh

This is purely my own opinion, but with all the negativity in the world right now, this kind of song — even though it’s tongue‑in‑cheek — feels a little tiring. I’ve done my share of macabre‑but‑happy songs, so I get the appeal, but for me it’s all about timing.
That said, this would absolutely fit right into the Top Ten list on Dr. Demento back in the ’70s. He played stuff like “I’m Looking Over My Dead Dog Rover,” “Fish Heads,” and “Dead Puppies (which are no fun!).” This song has that exact chaotic, dark‑comedy energy.

Well I have to agree with Bill, I can't believe there's someone else that can remember Dr. Demento.

There's always room for another Christmas song! Does this qualify as one? Not sure, but I enjoyed it anyway! A completely different Christmas story.

You are correct - when asked about influences, I may say Beatles, Dylan, Elvis Costello...
... but in reality I grew up listening to Dr. Dimento
Existential Blues anyone?
