The first line from my past gave me the inspiration to finish the rest,
maybe you know someone who fits the description?
[verse 1]
So many faces, I see them now,
long faded, in the mist of time.
Cryin', in the tear gas clouds,
till the shoutin', became too loud.
[verse 2]
The right, to never be wrong,
to fight, for what was right.
I wore that badge, with pride,
even God, was on our side.
[chorus]
How many roads, walked,
the marches, an' the rallies.
Banners, placards held high,
so everyone, could see.
[verse 3]
Sittin' down, in dirty streets,
my friend, goadin' riot police.
Bein' dragged, along the gutter,
saw one of the bastards, butt her.
[chorus]
How many roads, walked,
the marches, an' the rallies.
Banners, placards held high,
so everyone, could see.
[verse 4]
All them causes, fought an lost,
got, the badges an' the scars.
Lovers, look like Che Guevara,
keepin' them, that was harder.
[chorus]
How many roads, walked,
the marches, an' the rallies.
Banners, placards held high,
so everyone, could see.
[bridge]
Those times, have come and gone,
I'm happy, with what I've done.
Playin' Don Quixote,
came to define me.
[final chorus]
How many roads, walked,
the marches, an' the rallies.
Banners, placards held high,
so everyone, could see.
[outro]
Grandchildren, on my knee,
I hope, one day remember me,
Not someone, from another time,
but a woman, who held the line.

@sidshovel - great lyrics, wish I could write like this. My uncle served in the navy in Vietnam, when he got out he protested the war.0

This relates with me . Since I guarded the White House during Viet Nam War in the army . Thinking about it now , we should have let protestors drag Nixon out , it was a mess back then , kinda like now .
Good job Sid , some great details leading to hook

Thanks guys,it came about from a chance meeting with an old flame who I knew back in 70's, she was an activist then.
Did a round or two in the local pub covering, remember whens and whatever happened to's, got a song out of it.

Good write. Has a real sense of identity, maybe that's a reflection of your friend. If not, even more kudos.
Also a feeling of lost causes. Not pointlessness, a need to stand up for those causes, but a long series of defeats. I think you did well to get that into the song.
The music came out well too, a good match to the lyric.

Thanks @RainyDayMan
It was a sad meeting in the end. Time had stolen all the spirit and energy from her, leaving nothing but a shell of the person I remembered. I walked away determined to only keep the memories of her former self. It was those that inspired the song.
Glad to share.

It's a good lyric, proud and wistful at the same time, and the AI treatment fits it well. I got a good sense of who this person was.

Thanks Gavin, I can close my eyes and still see her full of fire an' vinegar.
Appreciate your comments
