Donna

I think at some point, we all can relate

[Verse 1]

The phone rings, but I don't wanna take the call

I recognize the name, the big world now small

I knew the day would come, that's always tomorrow

Every passing day lived, is always time borrowed

[Verse 2]

Rush of emotions fill my essence, my very soul,

Your years of pain and suffering has taken toll

Discussion of quality of life has come up before

To quote the Raven, pain you will feel, nevermore

[Chorus]

Moments in time suspended, my mind becomes numb

Time is not now, not ready, but the time has come

I want to go back to sleep, start the day again,

Pretend it didn't happen, yet the fact remains

[Verse 3]

I sit and stare out the window as the phone rings.

The will or desire to answer, myself I cannot bring

Deep inside, I know the truth, yet I remain blind

Retreating in the depths of my mind, in solace I find

[Verse 4]

Our upbringing wasn't easy, this we know to be true,

We may have had our differences, as most siblings do

Of memories, good and bad, in my heart, will cherish

Life lesson taught, will remain fresh, never perish

[Chorus]

Moments in time suspended, my mind becomes numb

Time is not now, not ready, but the time has come

I want to go back to sleep, start the day again,

Pretend it didn't happen, yet the fact remains

[Outro]

I summons the courage to answer the phone,

One phrase from my niece is spoken, It's Donna

I respond, I know.

  • Hi bhengen...

    Very easy listening. Beautiful chorus.

Hell, A.I. makes everyone as good, or nearly as good, as Sade.

When I read the lyrics through, I think there are parts that sound clunky in my head.

The strange thing is, once I listen to the song, it doesn't come across that way at all.

Your latest songs are going down some paths which I find both interesting and stimulating. Lots of opportunities to expand and build on in other songs.

    Thanks for that.

  • @IronKnee - Thanks, AI is good, except all of vocals are the same ,male or female. @sidshovel , these are clunky in a sense.. I needed to get the emotion out, so I didn't spend as much time.. I might come back later and clean them up, or just leave it raw. i've always like bands and prog artist like king crimson, elp, fish, moody blues, etc. as they have profound lyrics coupled with the musicality that feeds the brain..

It reads clunky but doesn't sound that way, very much like the Moody Blues. I wouldn't fix somethin' that isn't broke.

  • @sidshovel - that's true. my sister would have said the same thing :)

  • This is lovely. So sad and bittersweet. That chorus hits hard.

  • @RainyDayMan - thanks.. the crappy part of life when someone dies...especially when somebody has a terminal illness
