Single black rose

[Intro]

Here I am standing at your grave

on this warm summer's day

I am struggling for any words

never knowing what to say

[Verse 1]

I know I said we would meet again,

Never realizing that time is fleeting

I got busy, never found the moment,

sadly, this is how we're finally meeting.

[Verse 2]

I remember when we were children

We were invincible and carefree

At least I have those memories,

I'll hold them tight, forever with me

[Chorus]

I lay on your grave,

This single black rose

Says what I need to say

This single black rose

[Verse 3]

Summer days we spent at the beach,

Daydreaming under the summer's sun

Yet, as I stand here in refection,

You can't change what's already done

[Verse 4]

Grade school chums with a strong bond

Friends forever or so we thought,

Then high school comes, and we drift away

Spent my time in drink, shot after shot

[Chorus]

I lay on your grave,

This single black rose

Says what I need to say

This single black rose

[Verse 5]

The words I think of now to say

Are words I should have said then

But you never think to yourself,

I'll never see this person again

[Outro]

For the very last time I walk away

One final time on this warm summer's day

@bhengen Whoa! Talk about from the heart! And as you obviously know, the black rose is a most sorrowful rose symbolizing death, mourning and in this case, regret. V3: 'refection' threw me a bit until I looked it up. Don't know if it's the best word that could be used. That's only for you to decide. Or, maybe you meant 'refLection'? Other than that, I love your heart in this lyric of which so many can relate. I also like the way the lyric takes the listener through the time stamps. You obviously were friends with this person from childhood on up.

And I gotta say, I'm a bit envious of your title. Wishing I'd thought of it.

    Keep the great ones coming,

    Renee

  • Thanks for the comment.. yes, I meant reflection,, I had originally thought of reflection as the title , but the single black rose was better. No, didn't think of the black rose in that respect. my friend had a black 64' vw bug that he cherished.. the black rose is what he had hanging from his rear view mirror.., my mom made it for him.

  • Beautiful lyrics, very touching and passionate, I liked this a lot,

  • Thanks @sidshovel , really appreciate it

  • A single black rose is a wonderful title, strong visual, and laden with meaning.

The chorus is the highlight for me. I also like the contrast of the warmth of the summer's day and the sadness of the occasion.

    A sad, but beautiful song.

  • @RainyDayMan thanks for the comment. however, my sister feels it's disjointed. when I look at it, verse 3 and 4 should be swapped.

    [Verse 3]

Grade school chums with a strong bond

Friends forever or so we thought,

Then high school comes, and we drift away

Spent my time in drink, shot after shot

    [Verse 4]

Those childhood days spent at the beach,

    Daydreaming under the summer's sun

Yet, as I stand here in reflection,

You can't change what's already done

because, the line you can't changes what's already done, relates back to the drinking..
