Oh, Babylon, inspired by DIO
[Intro]
A father has visions of a better future.
While a son clings to visions past
One seeks change while the other resists,
Caught in a viscous cycle that never lasts
[Verse 1]
If we don't change, speaks the father,
Our city will not flourish, it will die.
To stay in the past is foolish thinking
We must reach for the stars, beyond the sky.
[Verse 2]
We cannot break tradition says the son
Anger the gods and suffer their wrath
Our ancestors built this great city,
Brick by brick they created our path
[Chorus]
Oh Babylon, once mighty Babylon
By decadence, by power, by greed
Oh Babylon, once powerful Babylon
Message ignored and left to bleed
[Bridge]
Angry words and a heated exchange
With a quick thrust of the knife
In cold blood, the father is slain
No remorse, the son takes a life
[Verse 4]
Now consumed with a lust for power
The son rules by arrogance and fear
Fueled by anger, the peoples rise up
For his life he pleads on empty ears
[Verse 5]
The city gates open for the liberator
With open arms at first, but soon learn
He is called the destroyer, the conqueror
The peoples once full of hope, now burned
[Chorus]
Oh Babylon, once mighty Babylon
By decadence, by power, by greed
Oh Babylon, once powerful Babylon
Message ignored and left to bleed

Interesting to use the Father as the instigator for change and the Son as the traditionalist, nice swap of roles!
The "Oh Babylon, once mighty Babylon" lines feel like they would be very easy to sing out on. Good fit for the chorus.
"Message ignored" feels like it might be more awkward to sing, so that could be something to look at once it's set to music. test it out.
Strong narrative, poetic style.
Do you have a style of music in mind for this one?

thanks for the comment.. i was going for industrial metal. when spoken, the line message ignored line works.. as the story goes, Nabonidus was forward thinking. He worshipped the moon god Sin-ili, while his son worshipped the tradition of Marduk. I added the shakesperean twist of son kills father, son dies :)
here's a link to the song..

Wild ride! Thanks for sharing the music link.
Spoken word makes perfect sense there, yes it fits quite smoothly.
Good stuff.
