Walk a way woman

From a stumblin man

She thought her love      would stand the test of time

he’s out there trying to track her down

Wants to talk it over wine

Was a time she was willing

Came a time she’s a walk away woman

When winter days get darker

Bar room drinks do too

Tequila turns to whiskey

Like sunny days to stormy moods

From beer to burgundy

From laughs into the blues

Was a time she’d sing along

Came a time she’s up and gone

Walk away woman

Catch her if you can

If you think your legs can take you

Full of  Johnny Walker’s brand

Then stumble out there Jack try to track her down

She’s in an out bound motion

From a darker drink direction

Break

When the sun goes down early

And there’s nothing much to do

There’s a rush to get a good seat

At the local house of booze

Walks in an angry woman she can’t take anymore

Spills all his coulda woulda shouldas

Out on the bar room floor

Walk away woman

Catch her if you can

If you think your legs can take you

Full of  Johnny Walker’s brand

Then stumble out there Jack try to track her down

She’s in an out bound motion

From a darker drink direction

Was a time the laughs were sweet

Came a time the laughs can’t beat

There’s a stumbling man out looking

For his run away woman

There she goes…. maybe I’ll pick up on her…. honey can I buy you drink?

  • This is a good strong song, excellent storyline with exceptional vocals and guitar work.

This is the first time however that the piece notably suffered with the lack of accompaniment.

It needed that country feel to complement your own guitar work.

I'm not a musician so interested to hear the professionals take.

    Sid

  • Wonderful lyric! Really like that.

Certainly one that would benefit from a full production, but the song itself is all there.

  • Your tracks inspire me to get back to the basics of guitar and voice. You do it well.

"Spills all his coulda woulda shouldas  Out on the bar room floor" is a really great, evocative line!

  • Thanks much for the kind words Matt. And thanks everyone for your comments.

  • There is some real marketability to this vocal, lyric, and instrumental treatment. I'm not musician enough to hear why, but it 'feels like' it could use some refinement to me. The potential is extremely high in my opinion.

  • Hey thanks for giving it a listen and your kind words my friend. The truth is...well I'm strictly amateur stuff. I love writing and then recording the song just me and a guitar,(on my iPhone), for kicks. No doubt many of my songs would be embelished with a band but...heck I can't find people that want to play original music round here.

@StoneFlowers Love your title; very catchy! And really love V1! I really like the way you took the choruses in different directions, too! So far as your music, I'm not much of a music critic other than I like it or not AND I love it! And reading above, you and me BOTH recordin' on our iphones !!!! But your recordings sound clearer than mine. Any secrets ya'd like to divulge?! 🤣

    Keep 'em comin'!

  • That you are doing this on your phone only makes it MORE impressive. If you have a computer there is a free download called "Audacity" that is a Mixer/Production DAW (Digital Audio Workstation." The sound quality will get a little bit better if you do that, but your ability to hear individual tracks and modify them will improve greatly. Additionally, it's likely that somewhere on some song forum, there are people who have the equipment and skills to collaborate with you. I have collaborated with about 50 people in the last 22 years, and most of my best stuff is done with others. Only occasionally do I (with my limited musical education and skills) produce my better stuff all by myself. As far as you being an amateur, that is not totally irrelevant, but your talent is more relvant, and makes you a very attractive collaboration partner. I'm not proposing to collaborate with you. You and I share too many of the same weaknesses and strengths for that to be an ideal pairing. I've been very fortunate to have found so many collaboration partners, BUT I've also been very persistent in seeking them out. GOOD LUCK, and I hope this helps you to see your talent more clearly.

  • Hey thanks much. I was checking out Audacity the other day. I'll go a little further with it. I'm open to collaborations.

Secrets? Hmm let me see. Well number one...a quiet space, the less ambient noise the better. I record right at my computer station. I have small pedestal to raise my Iphone up to about my chest level. That way it's relatively close to my voice and the guitar...hope that helps Renee

  • @StoneFlowers Thanks for responding: that's about what I do. My iPhone is one of the cheaper models; SE something or other. That could be the difference.

  • The biggest thing I could do to help you would be to able to do that would help you would be to help you catch up to the complexities of Audacity. It's not hard. . . but it's EXTREMELY helpful to have someone to ask how to do things. There are plenty of Youtube videos to show you how. . . but it's really not the same as being able to ask questions and get answers. I'm not expert with it. My old mixer DAW outdated and I've only been using Audacity for a few months. But I can help you to short cut using it regarding how to do things, and techniques to use to be able to record in segments instead of having to do it all in one take.

  • Another terrific song. I'm no expert on country music but I have a thing about bar-room songs! I can't criticise anything here. I just sit back and enjoy this stuff. 😀

  • @ChrisPrice Thanks for your kind encouraging words Chris

@StoneFlowers You've got really good acoustic guitar, vocal, and lyrical chops. On your Soundcloud, you say "I am so desperate for a drummer." I call bullshit, because I used to be you until I bit the bullet, got a DAW with some on-board sounds, a digital interface, and a decent mic, and then put in the work. What's actually desperate isn't you but your music, and it's desperate for you to quit the excuses, bite that same bullet, and put in the damn work. You owe it to your music to do so, Bro. :)

    David

  • Well hey amigo...thanks, I think? What's a DAW? Heck I'm just sitin round recording on my phone. But yeah I'd like to up grade my sound. Desperate Drummer is a song, I think I was playin with words when I wrote about being desperate. Yeah tell me more about recording and sound upgrades.

A "DAW" is Digital Audio Workstation software. Do you have a decent desktop or laptop computer with a USB input? If not, in my opinion that should be the first bullet you should bite for your music.

For reference, I have many songs that I composed with my acoustic guitar, and I have many posted hobosage.com. RainSongs is a collection of 6 songs with just one acoustic guitar track and one vocal track. As noted by others above, just being able to record your vocals separately from your guitar will itself alone much improve the quality of such simple recordings. I will add that it will likely also up the quality of your songs because being able to sing without having to also play your guitar simultaneously will open up a whole new world of possible vocal melodies and thus, corresponding song lyrics. DAW software that doesn't come with any additional sounds like Audacity mentioned above, a decent mic and a USB interface to connect the mic to the computer with the DAW software - or alternatively a USB mic with its own analog-to-digital converter - would enable you to make such quality recordings, and also allow to to add additional guitar tracks, additional vocal tracks, and to mix things together with effects. That starts you on the road to becoming a better producer and arranger. DAW software plus additional sounds like drum sounds, bass sounds, synth sounds orchestral sounds, etc,, would enable you to compose, arrange, produce, mix and even master complex multitrack recordings of your songs. Go On, Outside The Box, No Matter, Why Didn't You Complain, and On The Off Chance are simple songs of mine that, at core, are just an acoustic guitar and my lead vocal which I recorded on separate tracks, to which I then added some additional tracks with other sounds, and I then mixed together.

It requires a budget to get some minimal gear, and there will be a learning curve. But if you're dedicated to doing it, you can do this too., and do it yourself without relying on anyone else - including any generative AI bullshit. :)

  • Ok I'll get something together on this. Yes I have an up to date computer and the financial where with all to purchase the software. What 's your DAW with additional sounds recommendation?

  • I believe Cakewalk is still available for free. That's a fully featured DAW that used to cost hundreds. There's a bit of a learning curve, but you'll never need a different one!

There's some useful info in the Resources section, here on TSF, including DAWs people recommend, along with virtual instruments (VSTs) and how to use both in the recording process.

Yes! I'm excited for you that you've decided to take the plunge When it comes to computers and gear for music - DAW software, digital interfaces, headphones/speakers, microphones, etc - different folks have different preferences. I will say though that if you're a Mac user (I'm a PC user), you really can't go wrong with choosing Logic Pro X as your DAW software, and the sounds it comes with should keep you satisfied for a long time. Also, I believe most DAW programs allow you to try them out for free for a period of time - like for 30 days. You may want to start a new thread asking others here for their recommendations given the computer you use and the room environment in which you'll be recording. FWIW, my current music gear setup is:

    Computer: Lenovo Windows PC laptop

    DAW: Reason 12

    Digital Interface: SSL 2+

Microphone for both vocals and acoustic guitar: Shure Beta 87A small diaphragm supercardiod condenser

    Monitor Speakers: KRK Rocket 5's

    Headphones: Steven Slate VSX Platinum

    MIDI Keyboard Controller: M-Audio Keystation 88 MK-3

Acoustic Guitar: Rainsong DR-1000 six-string dreadnought

Electric Guitars: Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus ( switchable/mixable bridge humbucker + middle single coil + neck traditional Tele); Epiphone Slash AFD Les Paul Special II (dual Custom ProBucker Alnico 2 humbuckers)

  • The free software "Audacity" we discussed in a different thread is also a "D.A.W." If someone is recommending "Cakewalk" over other free software, I think it's probably a better option. For the most part with any free software, it's the one you get familiar with first that is the 'best.' I don't have any way to compare 'cakewalk' with 'Audacity.' 'Audacity' is just the one I heard of first.

  • Ok ya'll I'm goan on the hunt and will try and figure dis chit out. Thanks

  • Its not quiet Nashville current , But its a cool song man , catchy

  • Why thank you Elvis. Seems like modern country got to have some pop, hiphop, and rap in it. I can't do dat chit. That Cowboy Carter thing from Beyonce left me scratin my head. I wonder what David Allen Coe would have to say about it??
