Well Its nice to go old school every so often. but I came across the band "King Woman" in a crappy movie "I saw the tv glow." This may not be anybodies cup tea as they consider themselve to be doom metal. I'd say they are more akin to prog metal.

I know very little about metal and the metal sub-genres, but I like Kris Esfandiari as a songwriter. She's very talented. Here's an interview with her from a few years ago:
Some of the language in the video is not suitable for work or family (e.g., a few F bombs).

The Australian band Men at Work had numerous hits in the US in the early to mid 80s. Among the best, in my opinion, were these two. The latter one, Overkill, has a haunting melody at the end of the chorus with interesting chord changes around the line "ghosts appear and fade away".

This is the best cover version of a song I've ever heard this year. It's a great hard rock version of a classic hit by Journey. There's tons of energy in this one.

I've always enjoyed the music of Gloria Estefan. This is a song she released in 2003. The lyrics are very catchy and there are interesting chord changes and great vocals. The song has a lot of energy in the chorus. Great song!

Tom Petty had quite a few good hits in the US in 80s and 90s. I think this was my favorite among his songs from 1982.

Wild video! Don't think I've seen that before though the song was familiar once we got past the intro. Don't mind Tom Petty.

I agree, Owen. Yeah, that video was from the early days of music videos and the intro was too long. When I was growing up in the US in the 70s and 80s, I would read the Billboard hot 100, and they also included the top charts from the UK and Oz. Most of the time, the hits were similar in each country, but it was interesting to see the differences, such as a song becoming a huge hit in the UK or Oz, but not the US, and vice versa.
Cheers,
Joseph

Although Bananarama was best known for their 80s hits "Cruel Summer" and "Venus" (cover version), my favorite track from the group was "A Trick of the Night" from 1987. It has a great arrangement and vocals, interesting chord changes, and plenty of energy for a mid-tempo ballad.

Blondie had a number of hits in the US and globally in the late 70s and 80s. Deborah Harry was labeled the 'Queen of Punk'. "Call Me" was released in 1980 and is my favorite among Blondie's releases. The track has a great arrangement, excellent vocals, and lots of energy. 😎
