Uluru

Uluru
intro
Take me down under, take me down under.
Take me to Uluru.
Verse
Home of the ghosts of the ancients.
Of stories painted on stone.
Ask the elders, story tellers.
For they are the last to know.
Chorus
Open your mind, close your eyes.
Fall into a dream.
Become as one, live let live
Come learn to live free.
Verse
The songs of the didgeridoo.
Where to go and what to do.
The ways of the land down under
The power of Uluru.
Chorus
Open your mind, close your eyes.
Fall into a dream.
Become as one, live let live
Come learn to live free.
Verse
Hear the thunder, feel it rumble.
The gods are angry today.
The old ways have been forgotten.
So, so many things have changed.
Bridge
The devils are few, the tigers gone.
The world’s been sterilized.
Chorus
Open your mind, close your eyes.
Fall into a dream.
Become as one, live let live
Come learn to live free.

  • I think it works fine as is, but there's not much that's actually about Uluru in the song. You might be able to include something about it's color or size, or how waterfalls form in the rain or things like that if you wanted to. At the moment it's more about it's spiritual and traditional associations, which is perfectly fine of course.

When I went (over 40 years ago) , it was called Ayers Rock, typical Aussie understatement, a rock, it's nearly 6 miles in circumference!

What hits you when you see it is the secular, at least for me it was. The size, colour, age, (half a billion years), isolation.

I think you have to be Aborigine to appreciate the religious aspect of it, most of the group I was with just wanted to climb it!

    Good lyrics though!
