Too Many Doctors, Too Many Wives

Verse 1

I got a file thick as a roadside Bible

Every page says I’m liable to break

White coats talk in numbers and silence

Like I’m just a bad bet they can’t shake

They say, “Son, you’re wired all wrong”

Try to tune me like an old guitar

But I’ve been off-key my whole damn life

And I like it where we are

Pre-Chorus

Yeah they all got a cure or a cross to bear

But I ain’t buying what they’re selling there

Chorus

Too many doctors, too many wives

Trying to fix what’s keeping me alive

They all got a plan, say they know what’s right

But I ain’t looking for a cleaner life

They can write it down, they can testify

Put a label on me, call it classified

But I ain’t broke, don’t need their advice

Too many doctors… too many wives

Post-Chorus

Let me be wrong

Let me survive

Ain’t nothing wrong

With my kind of life

Verse 2

One said, “Quit all your bad habits”

One said, “You need a brand new start”

One packed up and took half my freedom

Said she couldn’t fix this heart

They all tried to draw me a straight line

But I live in the crooked truth

Yeah I bend, I break, I raise a little hell

But I ain’t lying to you

Pre-Chorus

They see a mess, I see a map

They don’t know where I’m at

Chorus

Too many doctors, too many wives

Trying to fix what’s keeping me alive

They all got a plan, say they know what’s right

But I ain’t looking for a cleaner life

They can write it down, they can testify

Put a label on me, call it classified

But I ain’t broke, don’t need their advice

Too many doctors… too many wives

Bridge (half-spoken outlaw feel)

Yeah I’ve been diagnosed, analyzed, criticized

By every kind of love and every kind of lie

But the only thing that ever felt like truth—

Was the part of me they couldn’t improve

Final Chorus (slight lift)

Too many doctors, too many wives

Trying to fix what’s keeping me alive

If I’m a problem, I’ll be one with pride

Ain’t trading soul for a safer ride

Let ‘em shake their heads, let ‘em testify

I’m still standing here, ain’t that a sign?

Yeah I ain’t broke, just hard to advise

Too many doctors… too many wives

Outro (tag)

They tried to fix me…

Hell, I fixed me just fine

You want me to do 30 exercises a day for this torn rotary cuff . Man I'm much too lazy for that . Don't you doctors have some medical miracle cure or something ? Why don't you ask that robot AI

I've never said Jesus Christ so much driving with her . You're giving women a bad time Tex . Well men never ask for directions so were lost on some dirt road 30 miles for our destination. With her saying you should have turned right 4 miles back
