Fairytales Will Never Save You

I never talk about why I write songs

I think once religions are abolished in a 1000 years , Man will finally realize we have to get along to survive

Verse 1

We came up crawling through the ages

Clawing daylight from the dark

Still got thunder in our instincts

Still got trouble in our hearts

We built cities outta survival

Put our fears in sacred names

But the jungle never left us

We just learned to hide the same

Chorus

Fairytales will never save you

No savior’s coming down

Evolution wrote the playbook

Blood and bone and higher ground

Prayers might calm the fear inside you

But they won’t stop the flood

Fairytales will never save you

We were built from dirt and blood

Verse 2

Everybody wants a rescue

Everybody wants a sign

Looking upward for a miracle

While the wolves cross every line

We still fight for land and power

Same old story, different day

Just dressed up in modern armor

But the rules ain’t changed that way

Chorus

Fairytales will never save you

No savior’s coming down

Evolution wrote the playbook

Blood and bone and higher ground

Prayers might calm the fear inside you

But they won’t stop the flood

Fairytales will never save you

We were built from dirt and blood

Bridge

No hand reaching from the heavens

No cavalry in white

Just your shadow in the mirror

And the will to stand and fight

Final Chorus

Fairytales will never save you

No one’s coming, that’s the truth

Life don’t care about your plans

Time don’t care about your youth

We’re just animals with car keys

Trying to outrun what we are

Fairytales will never save you

They just make the fall that hard

Comments

  • I usually don’t comment on lyrics because I don’t have much experience writting songs. Your songs always have great stories, but they don’t have a catchy vibe or chorus. For me, once you get that, you’ll make a hit

I'm not worried about pitching songs anymore , as the artist and if I decide to record it . this will work for my brand . I don't worry about to flashy commercial radio chorus'es any more . Outlaw is more subtle . At 72 I will never have a hit . the odds are zero. I will make Adsense money yearly and thats it . Its not really the song anymore , Its the strong inner circle connections in the real music industry

  • Got it. I don't think it's too late. As long as you're still alive, you can do whatever you want and anything still can happen.

No I'm realistic , It takes a million bucks to get a hit . I just do this to accomplish a goal in recording in studios . Nashville will always sell the dream . thats why 400 songs were reccorded today in Nashvegas . Even grammy award song writers have a tough road to carry today in 2026 . it's a much more combative edge to win to say in 1990 . To tell you the truth I'm not sure what the AI songs do to the market place . I'm sure it dampens profits a tad . but I'm not really sure . I'm sure major session players must have concerns , even producers in the real music world .

I'm guessing what Chip Taylor made off Wild thing is a higher % than what song writers make now off a hit . Political new structures have diminished amounts made on hit songs of today. Let's say Travis Medows with a catalog worth 32 million . I'm sure how that translates to catalogs of 50 years ago per captia on dollar amounts

  • I'm not sure about your assessment that religion will be abolished in 1000 years. humans will always need to believe in something.

Does the song actually need a chorus? I know that's how you write, but, and this is entirely my own opinion, that chorus would make more of an impact as the outro and just have the two verses and the outro. I also don't think the bridge is serving anything,

Also, why don't you setup as a sole proprietorship, that's what I've done for the last 30 + years

  • I'm sure religions will be around, but more diminished over common sense . but it's only a theory

No I'm not messing with IRS . They look down on hobbies as write offs

If the page made 100k a year then it would worth tax consultants

  • What do you mean Hobbies, I thought being a professional musician was your profession.

The profits are not enough to be considered a pro artist, LLC are tuff to handle on a tax level , I already have to deal with that being a contractor . Trump has also thru loopholes in tax this year and as always poltians lie about everything and cost of living has not caught with inflation

Yes with my voice it's more outlaw . it gruff like Tom Waits . Just on an observation old black artists will attract young viewers . but not old white men , Well sometimes

  • You don't need an LLC and a sole proprietor is enough. This is what my cpa told me when, after 30 years of breaking even, I was concerned that would raise some red flags. My CPA laughed and said - They don't give a fuck about you. You would cost them more money to audit.

I'm not going to worry about it , it's only Adsense money . Yes CPA Are grouchy dealing with IRS asholes . there more corrupt then the cartel . They will tax you when your dead

if mine was so corrupt, then he wouldn't have spent unbillable hours helping us

Not everybody is out to get us, not every profession is corrupt.

And no, elvis. as i've mentioned. I've been a sole proprietor for over 30 years and in those 30 years, always broke even, so I haven't paid taxes. I stand corrected. there was one year where we paid $2,000 and last year I paid $12, only because I didn't have enough write offs. I''m not sure about this year.

it's not only about loopholes. it's simple. you need your expenses to be greater than your income.

A sole proprietor ship costs nothing. all I have to do is keep my business license up to date. that's it. no taxes or anything.

That is not outlaw that is how every person feels paying taxes with gas at 6 bucks a gallon

Another fucking war in the Middle East .... why religion

the sooner people start getting it all fairytales the sooner we start getting along

Why that would never work in Nashville , cuz its the Bible Belt
