Let’s Blame It On The Stars
Here's another country/rock song that I had written some years ago. I'll post the original to compare with the splendid Suno cover... Tell me what you think. Thanks.
And here is the original work composition:

“Let’s Blame It On The Stars”
Words & Music By Tom Tognaci
You drifted your way
I just seemed to fall into my old ways
Who saw it coming? I guess I should have seen it in your eyes
Like a light fading away
I saw you last night, sitting by your window, searching the stars
Looking for answers? Well, I’ve been searching for some of my own
C’mon now, baby, the moon said something we both should have known
About the stars and their fickle ways
Now, I don’t know what went wrong
But before you go on
Putting the blame on you and me
Let’s blame it on the stars
They never really were aligned just right
While we were gazing at Mars,
We really should have spent our time on wishing wells
That’s right! Let’s blame it on the stars
I heard you last night, listening to the same old silly love song
Who was that singing, crooning only he could light your fire?
C’mon now, baby, why are you listening to that old flat tire
Spinning ‘round and around and ‘round?
Now, I don’t know what went wrong
Sounds like the same old song
Putting the blame on you and me
Let’s blame it on the stars
From Willie and the Outlaws to George Jones
Not one we could call ours
They never wrote a song that we could call our own
That’s right! Let’s blame it on the stars
Let’s blame it on the stars
Let’s blame it on the stars

They are both equally as good. love the guitar in the original version

Both good versions. But you get the male / female swap with Suno, and the extra polish. Though sometimes it's the flaws that make it feel real. I enjoyed both.

Thanks, guys. This song, personally, was lyrically one of my more ambitious writes. Blaming the heavenly stars and earthly stars in one song could have been a big miss. I'm glad you like it.
However, I would never publish the original as some finished "radio ready" song. I think the Suno cover does the job very nicely and keeps the integrity of my song wonderfully.
Thanks, again!

Andy Grammar did the hook , but thats alright . Thats written well Tom . Sounds real good , cool melody

He did not write the hook, Elvis. You really have a way with words.
He wrote the title "Blame it On The Stars" . That's as far as the similarity goes. His is a sorta rap song. Two different worlds and two different ideas.
Yeah, I google my titles as I write them.

Yup it's rap , Way with words ? I just googled it I was curious .
"Let's blame it on the stars" is widely considered a cliche
Thats why I googled it

As a wise writer once wrote: To borrow a cliche adds little, to steal a cliche is the only way to make it yours.

ha ha ha , ok I'll buy that

i like it, nice melody.
I like the play on 2 different types of stars.
The Suno version is nice Because it adds in more production and the duet which works well here.
Something about the original though that i prefer.

Thanks, MuskieBait44... If only I had a band. The original was recorded as a work demo, some 12 years ago.
Thanks to Suno, I know have a completed cover.
BTW, do you fish much?

Gimme the original every time Tom. Absolutely no contest. I'm trying to be positive as I can about Suno these days, but this tells me everything I need to know. This is real music..a real singer and all the vibe that the robots will never be able to simulate. A great song.

Cost to much money for session players band , Thats what happened . where's the ROI ? Elvis you just think about money . You wake up and go to sleep on profit and loss . Thats reality . Tom would have to spend about 800 bucks to record it , why bother . Again where's the ROI ?

Hi Chris... the original is a work demo.
This cover is as close as I can get to beautiful full productions. I'm not a computer geek that is savvy on DAW. I never wanted to be.
For most of my life I've wanted to have and work with a band, but it wasn't in the cards.
I couldn't care less about Suno until the "cover" feature came into play. Now, I don't need a band or a producer. Of course, people still want to see their cool stars on stage, so I have no illusions that my songs will be positively received. I'll hope to use these covers as demos of my music.
Afterall, for me, it's all about the writing.
Thanks for chiming in... I know you would love to avoid any commendation on AI anything.

I don't know how long ago this Andy Grammar actually wrote "Blame It On The Stars" but it was published in 2014.
I checked my song book and verified that I wrote "Let's Blame It On The Stars in 2008. I recorded it sometime in 2009 but kept from posting it because it was sorely incomplete.
So you see Elvis, mine was written 6 years before Andy published his. But not that it really matters.
I always google my titles; but honestly, if I can change a title and still keep the essence. I always do.
In this case... I was first!
HaHaHaHa

Tom, I really like your vocals, although, Suno's is more polished, but if you could find how to put your vocals into the melody of Suno, that would be a huge win. I love the fact that you have moved to Suno to see the full potential of your songwriting/art. It's amazing at what it has done and makes you appreciate your work more. I believe each of us have our own reasons for AI assistance, but AI is in every aspect of life. Some approve of it in ways that benefit them (iPhone, Ring cameras, DAWS (AI plugins), software, ChatGPT, spell checker, social medias, automobiles, etc), but it's loathed when it comes to music. I spend hours/days creating in SUNO, and I don't think it's acknowledged/appreciated on how long it takes to get what you want. It's not as simple as many think it is. (well, not for me).
Keep going and I can't wait to hear what's next!
BTW: I appreciate both versions. It's unique in its own way.
Great work!

Your last comment isn't really right. I've given positive reviews for several AI offerings on here of late. I'm trying to understand and accept things as they are rather than let my own feelings about AI generated music get the better of me. And if Suno is now doing covers for you then, yeah, I get it. It doesn't stop me preferring your work demo.
I really enjoy your music Tom and I'm sorry if my comments about the Suno production came over as being too dismissive or negative. 😀

Hi Tammy, and thanks. My vocals are OK, but I've been listening to myself for 5 decades and I still am not satisfied. Perhaps in a band I could have found a place for my voice. The Suno productions produce arrangements that I had wished, for years, I could have worked out with others in a band. Never happened. My solo recordings are the best my enthusiasm could muster. While all my friends, back in the day, put down their guitars, their pens, and walked away from their pianos, I maintained for all these years trying to find MY SONG.
Suno reflects in the covers that I have penned many songs that I can be very proud of.
Thanks again for stopping by.

Hi Chris, and I'm sorry if I misunderstood you.
AI is hated by many... and mostly by those who have depended on their computer-based DAW for the production of their songs. When all was fair and even, my music was roundly appreciated. At the Muse the competitions started to delve deeply into their DAW productions, which left my archaic workings behind. For years, the computer geeks ruled the songwriting comps... that is, until Suno reared its ugly head. I wanted nothing to do with Suno, at the time. I love writing songs. Why would I allow Suno to write a melody for me, or a lyric? It is what I do best. But when Suno developed a "cover" feature, that changed my whole outlook. I began posting some of these covers of mine at the Muse, and the long story short, ALL of the computer geeks there balked and relegated all AI music into the forum's basement. There is no place in any contest utilizing a pure cover. Funny... after I expressed that I was tired of listening to myself, it was agreed upon to allow Suno productions as long as we use our own vocals. That rule sounded a bit cruel and pointed to me. LOL 😎
Anyway, I'm a bit sensitive after being argued down and ostracized.
We've always, throughout the years, supported each other's music.
Thanks!

Yeah, the Muse can be a rather brutal place so I get where you're coming from. I used to spend a fair bit of time over there and also on the UK site.
I make no secret that I'm not a big fan of AI generated music. I don't hate it, but I struggle with the point of it. I'm old fashioned and I prefer the human endeavor that goes into creating and performing music. It's perhaps why I really like to hear just a voice and a guitar sometimes. But I understand where the lyricists are coming from and I totally get why you'd want to try Suno's 'Cover' feature. It's very smart. I just checked it out and I see you can even import the stems for use in a DAW which is a great feature. I notice Elvis Nash is using it and that says something. If I'm honest it still isn't for me, but I have to accept that the technology is here to stay. It's all music - however it's created.
Keep up the good work Tom. 😀

its just demos , to test the waters , its no big deal

Take care!

The muse ? , their kittens compared to that site

There's no impressing anyone there or the Muse. As far as I'm concerned, both those places have died.
You post there like you are possessed. Nobody there cares, Frank... Elvis...
What's the purpose in posting a song a day? Whatever... keep it up. You are really adding something there.
Both places have turned inward onto themselves to shut down anything that doesn't resemble themselves.
Mob rules and site managers act helpless, or worse... complicit.
Here is the only place I know that will listen to a cover without crying rape.
