Showdown in Space

...a little Star Wars, anyone?

Consider this lyric and accompanying some my own personal tribute to all of the wonderful, glorious, and totally campy sci-fi shows and movies that I grew up watching back in the 70s and 80s. Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Space:1999, Star Blazers, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon...you name it, it's all in there somewhere :-)

[Verse 1]

Down on the ground

The alarms sound

Invaders come from

Beyond our sun

We launch, we race

Toward outer space

Our ships fly steady

Weapons ready

[Pre-Chorus]

Thrusters fire

As we soar higher

[Chorus]

Another showdown in space

For the human race

We’re defending Earth

For all we’re worth

As we all fight

With beams of light

The future awaits

Showdown in space

[Musical Interlude]

[Verse 2]

As they attack

We hold them back

We’re looping, swerving

Climbing, curving

Our blasters blazing

Our hearts racing

Missiles are flying

Pilots dying

[Pre-Chorus]

We’re not running

But they keep coming

[Chorus]

Another showdown in space

For the human race

We’re defending Earth

For all we’re worth

As we all fight

With beams of light

The future awaits

Showdown in space

[Musical Interlude]

[Verse 3]

The aliens

Have us outgunned

We know their threat

Must be well met

Heroes stand tall

And save us all

But there’s a cost

Many are lost

[Pre-Chorus]

Legends are born

Battle scars worn

[Chorus]

Another showdown in space

For the human race

We’re defending Earth

For all we’re worth

As we all fight

With beams of light

The future awaits

Showdown in space

[Bridge]

We destroy the alien ships one by one

Until the invaders are all gone

Earth’s defenders are glorious

As we emerge victorious

[Chorus]

Another showdown in space

For the human race

We’re defending Earth

For all we’re worth

As we all fight

With beams of light

It’s a fate we embrace

Showdown in space
