If you could read my mind
Words - me; Music: Suno
https://suno.com/s/4ZOfHhCkTJs6lVSf
[Verse 1]
I close my eyes and find myself bathed
In a sea of bubbles of different shapes
And hues, growing eyes and lips, they talk
Mocking me, oh how they mock, so very cruel
Their beady little eyes, so judgmental
Bubbles bursting of angry words, drowning
My auditory canals, echoing, relentlessly
They twitter amongst each other, laughing
Saying, sad little man is so very mental
[Verse 2]
Gordon Lightfoot's if you could read
My mind playing in the background
Nah brother, if you could read my mind,
Playing like a bizarre surrealistic
Movie written by Wes Craven and Tim burton
On acid While I'm exposed on a blank canvas
Awash in the multi-colored lines and
Frenetic spatters of Jackson Pollock
Just have to be mindful of the nails
And tacks and the burnt cigarettes
So exotic, erotic, I feel so alive
[Verse 3]
Am I alive, or not alive or both
Alive and not alive, does it matter?
What matters is that I'm in what
Can be said as an almost cognitive
Orgy with Lewis Carroll, and the ever
So colorful Oscar Wilde, And I allow
Them to penetrate my mind, thrusting
Deep into the inner folds, they fill
Me with thoughts and ideologies that
I've never, ever experienced before
You could say, I'm virginal of sorts
My thoughts bleed anticipation
[Verse 4]
As quickly as they came, they leave
We give each other a shake as they
Vanish from my psyche, I'm alone, again
Naturally, Gilbert is singing softly
Into my ear. I have the warm fuzzies
Only to be shattered by laughing
Ray Liottas and grinning pointing fingers
But they aren't pointed at me, no
I turn my gaze and outside my screen
Looking in are just as lonely figures
Of ignorance bathed in arrogance, as
They grin and point and laugh, become
A circular jerk of repeating patterns
Of the Rays and them pointing at each
Other, exasperated, I just walk away

That's a wild ride around a mental landscape!
Not sure what I was expecting musically, but this is almost tame compared with the lyric. Are you going for contrast there?

Yes, I was trying for the storytelling vibe against weird lyrics.
I was actually listening to if you can read my mind, and thought it would be interesting to take his style and make it weird.
As you probably figured out, none of these lines were planned, I made them up as I went along.
Thanks for commenting.

@bhengen as usual the lyric a bit over my head. LOVE the music. Very pretty. Seemed Leonard Cohenish to me.

Wow oh wow! I loved the song so much I had to save it to my Suno playlist. I'm speechless. Wow. This was so magically crafted and written, and the music, I don't have the right words.
Bravo! Encore! Well done, Bill!
You did an amazing job!

This shouldn't work. The lyric doesn't fit the melody. It rambles all over the place. But it does work 🤔 I think that ill-fitting rambling thing is what holds my attention and makes me pay attention to the lyric as it kind of wanders through my brain. And then, the lyric is just a succession of thoughts, but they're interesting thoughts and seem to follow from each other, which makes it fun.

Thanks gavin, had fun writing this one :)

Good song Bill, I like it. I did mention on another site the vocals sounded more Cohen and it still does. I know you don't care much for him but for that vocal style Suno opts for a kind of fusion of Springsteen/Kristofferson/Cohen.
You might get a better return using a prompt like Male vocals, folk/outlaw country, melodic, baritone, lo-fi.
Anyway, a good one, love the way you blend genres seamlessly.
Always interesting and stimulating.

In the world of real business in music , Songwriters don't write the hook "If you could read mind , since it's a famous hook by Gordon Lightfoot . But since your worried not being in the real business world , it does not matter

Exactly. Because for me to make it, even if I were to rewrite this the probability is slim to none.

I don't think a Suno song competes with Gordon Lightfoot's classic . He died I think this year or last . His family will continue to make royalties on that song for years to come . I think Gordon passed at about 84 years old , He looked pretty bad to his younger self , probably due to some disease . He hated some songs he wrote and refused to play them in concert . He started when making it in the music industry was probably easier than now in 2025 . Was he aware of Suno ? probably .

Of course not, Gordon had real talent. suno is just an elaborate computer program. Even if it gets to the point where you can't tell human or AI, you still need to be heard in a billion voices.

But this is not that song, and you only know the reference cause it's mentioned...
I think the lyrics are very interesting. Very poetic and original. Not sure the music does it justice, if it were mine id probably leave the read my mind reference out.
Good thing with suno your not locked into that version.
If you could match the music to the lyric you'd have something great0 -
If you've been a songwriter more than a day , You'd know "If You Could Read mind is a famous song by Gordon Lightfoot

Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it. :)

Yes, this has been established. the probability of this song going anywhere is nil, so I think i'm safe :)

It's making reference to it, or homage to it. The list of songs that mention other songs is full.
I just dint think you need it, call it something else. But I'm not worried about the title either0 -
This style is so personal as well as the story, lyrics lead us into a very intimate experience. I love the way of delivering the vocal.
