[intro]

[verse 1]

The old lady on the bench,

in the hospital gown.

Waved to the young girl,

an' asked her to sit down.

[verse 2]

Please don't pass me by.

you'll be me in fifty years.

Stop and spend a minute.

help wipe away the tears.

[chorus]

I was once like, you are now,

ready to take on the world.

Had confidence in myself.

nothing made me scared.

[instrumental, 32 bars, piano, violins, cello, orchestral]

[verse 3]

Let me tell you an old tale,

of lives an' loves, an' losses.

Friends who cut you loose.

faith, an' double crosses.

[verse 4]

My man, an' my best friend,

you get where this is goin'.

Betrayal behind my back,

all without me knowin'.

[chorus]

I was once like, you are now,

ready to take on the world.

Had confidence in myself.

nothing made me scared.

[instrumental, 32 bars, piano, violins, cello, orchestral]

[verse 5]

A rage beyond my nature,

the devil tore me apart.

Put the knife in my hand.

and I put it in her heart.

[bridge]

Life, no chance of parole,

better that they kill me.

The young girl felt the pain

just above her knee.

[verse 6]

She fell down on the bench.

old lady scalpel in her fist.

Took her arm out of her gown

ran the knife across her wrist.

[instrumental, 32 bars, piano, violins, cello, orchestral]

[chorus]

I was once like, you are now,

ready to take on the world.

Had confidence in myself.

nothing made me scared.

[outro]

The police found the bodies,

dead on the park seat.

a torn picture of a couple,

at the crazy patient's feet.

  • Gaaaawd what a great story. Where the heck did you come up with that one??

Every morning I read the Guardian and the BBC and every morning I have twenty ideas for songs. They are everywhere!

    Here's what I do:

I read and take note of any interesting story, like the Rochdale Grooming Gang, or paragraphs, lines or phrases, take a note of context and save it to a text file along with others. Now here's the important bit, leave them sitting there for weeks or months, so you lose the initial association. When you go back later you look at it with fresh eyes and think of all possible scenarios using the phrase, etc. For example, I wrote down the phrase "I can't take any more", if I think about it straight away, I think someone in despair, suicide, etc. Going back much later, the first thing I thought of was a shoplifter who takes too much and gets caught. Do you see how it works?

Once you get the hang of it, you end up with hundreds of song prompts that lead you down so many interesting paths.

    Try it,

    Oh, by the way, Thanks,

    Sid

  • Superb arc and well penned bruv.
I enjoyed the hook and it's twist. The entire time my thoughts on the fear were related to her youth and invincibility but there you go changing course and tossing in the plot twist!
