The naked ape
The naked ape
Verse
There’s a mountain in the clouds
An alter of stone.
Where the ancients once worshipped
A long time ago.
Pre chorus
Their gods were the forces of nature.
The sun the moon and the stars.
They hunted, they fished and they gathered.
Just staying alive was hard.
Chorus
They placed their lives in the hands of fate.
Man, the naked ape.
Verse
Now his kingdom is the earth
His altar is gold.
He sees no need to worship.
He now has no soul.
Pre chorus
He fears not the forces of nature.
He’s been to the moon and mars.
He’s explored, he’s fought and he’s conquered.
His planet now bears the scars.
Chorus
He’s now the master of his own fate.
Man, the naked ape.
Bridge
He’ll multiply till all else dies.
They will be no escape.
Thus is the fate, thus is the fate
Of man the naked ape.

That opening verse gives me a 2001 - A Space Odyssey vibe!
The story is communicated effectively, but I hope the conclusion is wrong!
I like how the pre-chorus moves from worshiping the moon to conquering it, gives it a consistency but with progression.
