lyrics SS music/vocals Ai

[verse 1]

I get it, you don't want to use my name

When you needed me I wasn't there

No father's arms to pick you up

No one to say, it's o.k., there, there.

[verse 2]

But you don't know, the whole story

The one you've heard, is a fairy tale

You've been blinded from the truth

Her version, the only one for sale

[chorus]

I loved you then,

and I love you now

I'll love you when I'm old

Still love you when I'm gone

[verse 3]

The facts, would have hurt you, more than lies

I wouldn't be there to hold you, and dry your eyes

Wounded by your hurt, I chose to protect you from afar

One day I will sit down with you, answer all the "Whys"

[chorus]

I loved you then,

and I love you now

I'll love you when I'm old

Still love you when I'm gone

[verse 4]

Thousands of miles away, and still close within my heart

A self-imposed sentence, with no chance of parole

My love will never waver, no matter what you've been told

Every cell in your body, carries a little piece of my soul

[chorus]

I loved you then,

and I love you now

I'll love you when I'm old

Still love you when I'm gone

[outro]

Comments

  • Comes across as very tender.

The lyric isn't explicit about why he wasn't there (though perhaps implied by "A self-imposed sentence, with no chance of parole"), but you might double down on that in the chorus. Start with what you already have, then move into more of a "when you're ready to listen I'll tell you the truth" finish.

The latter verses appear to have longer lines than the first two, but worry about that only when setting it to specific music.

As a total aside, the quickest way to open a link to music is to hold down CTRL (or CMD on a Mac) whilst left-clicking, rather than: right click, select open link in new tab.

    Good points, taken on board,

    Sid

Facts, would hurt you, more than lies

not there to hold you, and dry your eyes

Pained by your hurt, protect you from afar

There'll come a day, I answer all the "Whys"

Many miles away, still close within my heart

A self-imposed sentence, no chance of parole

My love will not waver, whatever you're told

Each cell of yours , carries a piece of my soul

    [chorus]

    I loved you then,

    and I love you now

I'll love you when you know the truth

Still love you when I'm gone

Thanks for the shorcut tip, sorted

    Technical question!

Does anyone know if there is a musical term for the constant repetative fingerpicking accompanying the vocals in this song?

I've heard this style before in songs by Richie Havens and Leonard Cohen and vaguely remember it has a name!

    Thanks,

    Sid

you need to write a clearer story with Furniture

Why wasn't he around ? What happened that he wasn't around

But you don't know, the whole story , Thats right I don't , you need to tell to us

If you want Ethos and Pathos is this song ( and that's a must) Why should we care about this guy ?

you know the ( Key Element ) Is a strong hook . I love you has been more times then I've been married

Feed the machine a strong hook and angle

arpeggios well there boring , you need hammer on's and pull off's and a base line like James taylor

Travis picking , I'm dumber then a box of hammers , Pick up a guitar , Give it one year

you know what Bless your heart means ? Its a nice way of saying you need to work harder

all of you need this book

You don't wanna be like me losing a house cuz not studying the craft enough

  • In terms of the AI fingerpicking, I suspect it's making up its own version, but it sounds closest to Travis picking to me. Travis picking normally uses an alternating bass (picked by the thumb) to give it a distinctive sound. This doesn't quite do that, but it feels like an AI simulation of it to me.
