We tore through the ghost towns

up in the snow-topt mountains

before the spirits were aware

that we’d ever been there.

We hit a patch of blue ice outside Stillwater

goin’ 80 on what felt like a final ride,

we did a 360 spin around

with Jeannie at the wheel.

Please, I’m asking you

don’t you let Jeannie drive no more

she can’t keep her mind on the road

this highway cannot contain her,

she’s just too combustible a load.

Don’t you let Jeannie drive no more

Don’t you let Jeannie drive.

We passed 5 cadillacs and one limo flyin’

all of a sudden Jeannie started into cryin,

I asked her whatsa matter, she’s wound up tight

as she breezed through the interchange light

one red double semi was bearing down,

a hanger full of Mustangs and a yellow bus,

she screamed through her tears and turned pale

Damnit, damnit, damnit

I broke another nail!!

Please, I’m askin’ you

Don’t you let Jeannie drive no more

she can’t keep her mind on the road

I don’t think this highway can contain her,

Don’t you let Jeannie drive no more

Don’t you let Jeannie drive.

At the county line the engine started clanking

every wheel in my head began to cranking

the intersection disappeared into a dream,

everything was not exactly how it seemed

every last gas pump on this infernal interstate

was drained to the last drop of super octane 8.

Me and Jeannie stuttered to a stop,

she drained me, left me with diddly bop.

There’s nothin’ left to show

gonna grab my Keds an’ go.

My nerves are scattered,

she may be a non-stop lover

but don’t let her put her hands on the wheel,

.

Don’t you let Jeannie drive no more,

Don’t you let Jeannie drive

Good story, well told, almost taste the fumes.

    Loved it,

    Sid

  • Wow, that was some intro! Loving the slide. As Sid says, a great story. I'll be steering clear of Jeannie when I'm out on the road for sure! She'd be even worse over here, we drive on the wrong side of the road!!

  • Some of the slide in the music sounds like it could be engine revving, so that feels like a good fit to the lyric.
