Why you should join this forum

In late February 2024, I joined this forum. A few weeks earlier I'd written my first songs, ever!
Like most fledgling songwriters, I sought comment on whether what I was doing was any good!
I checked out the top four songwriting forums, including this one.
My Grandfather always told me, that there were two ways of doing anything, the right way and the wrong way.
I posted a song in each forum under different names. I was testing the quality of response, if any.
Three out of four sites contained a significant number of unhelpful comments, focusing totally on the content, "for which they strongly disagreed," rather than the structure of the song at all. Further checking of the discussion boards showed this reaction was not atypical. Only the feedback from TSF was objective and dispassionate, comments were helpful and constructive. They were the only one doing it the right way!
In the three months I have been a member of this forum, I have received nothing but the best support and advice one could hope for. All the members go that extra mile with comments designed to bring you on.
There are no cliques, Queen Bees, or Gossip Girls here, everyone is treated with respect and tolerance, the way it should be. It is a family orientated site, which does not mean prudish, but does establish thresholds based on reasonable levels. The moderators are well respected songwriters/musicians who appreciate the expectations of both the songwriters and the audience.
At the end of the three months that I've been here I put together an album of my songs, (see link at top of page). Good or bad, that's not for me to say. It is meant to show budding songwriters that this is a family that helped me put these songs together by their support and advice. They will do the same for you, so jump on in and bring out the best in yourself.
My heartfelt thanks to all the members of TSF and the Boss.
Sid

This is a lovely post which echoes my feelings about TSF. I came onboard about 5 years ago while I was recovering from a serious heart condition. Getting back into songwriting and recording really helped me. I read about Mike who started the forum, but I joined too late to hook up with him. Sadly he is no longer with us, but Owen has done a fantastic job keeping the forum alive. He asked me a while back to be a moderator. That was lovely and I'm honoured to do my bit . This place is special.😀

Glad to hear we're getting it right, Sid! Thanks for posting this. And as Chris alluded to, it all goes back to Mike Frisbee, TSF-Mike who founded the original site, and set the ground rules for how we operate today. But the site only comes alive with members, so all of you who contribute, help each other, and enjoy the spirit of TSF, please take a bow!

Although I joined for different reasons, I find this place to be elevated above the poetry sites regarding the comments being more constructive and less self serving. It does feel 'warmer' here.
