One step closer to god
One step closer to god
The sun set in a pool of blood
That seeped into the clouds.
Down a path across the creek
ran some piglets and a sow.
A heron was framed by branches
against the backdrop of the lake.
A bass splashed in the water
and startled me awake.
With every click of the camera
I grow one step closer to god
And I can see that humanity
And nature are at odds.
Its war and we’re winning it
But what is there to gain
Except more concrete cities
at expense of grassy plains.
Night has slipped in through the backdoor
And is smothering what I see
And my prayers aren’t near enough
To stave off what will be.
With every click of the camera
I grow one step closer to god
And I can see that humanity
And nature are at odds.
I want to scream for them to stop it
But I know no one will hear.
All I can do is enjoy what is left
with my camera and a cold beer.
The sun set in a pool of blood
That seeped into the clouds.
Down a path across the creek
ran some piglets and a sow.
A heron was framed by branches
against the backdrop of the lake.
A bass splashed in the water
and startled me awake.
With every click of the camera
I grow one step closer to god
And I can see that humanity
And nature are at odds.
Its war and we’re winning it
But what is there to gain
Except more concrete cities
at expense of grassy plains.
Night has slipped in through the backdoor
And is smothering what I see
And my prayers aren’t near enough
To stave off what will be.
With every click of the camera
I grow one step closer to god
And I can see that humanity
And nature are at odds.
I want to scream for them to stop it
But I know no one will hear.
All I can do is enjoy what is left
with my camera and a cold beer.

Nature can certainly generate a sense of wonder and awe and that comes across clearly in the lyric. There is a feeling that we aren't as close to nature as we used to be, and that comes across too!
