Heat of the Night

This is "Heat of the Night," Track 11 on my new album "Dark, Beautiful World."

11. Heat of the Night

Verse 1: (R&B/Soul and Blues mixed with Country; (Acoustic and slide guitars, fiddles, light drums)
Oh no, here we go again
You're wearin' that red dress I like
And you know I lose my mind
You tell me how much that you miss me
I can't tell you I feel the same
I can see right through your game
But I don't care if I lose

Chorus (Add louder electric and slide guitars and drums)
In the heat of the night
We don't care that this ain't right
When the sun comes up
We'll say, "God, what have we done?"
But this is somethin' we can't fight
In the heat of
In the what of the night

Verse 2:
We both know the way this goes
You tell me you need me, I say "you're my one and only"
But when the moon goes down, oh
I know you'll be gone and I'll say, "This was wrong..
...but I just can't help myself"

Chorus:

(Blues Rock Electric/Slide Guitar solo)

Chorus:

Outro:
In the heat of
In the heat of...the night…

(music fades)

Comments

  • I like parts of this. Verse 1 seems strong, and I like most of the chorus.

"In the what of the night" is that a typo? I couldn't figure out what that would mean.

The chorus feels like it's set up to rhyme with the "done", and then doesn't, so maybe that's something to look at.

V2 doesn't seem to follow the pattern of v1, so I don't understand how that works. But that's ok as long as you do.
