Eventually
I wrote this as a poem for a college poetry writing class in 1989!
I came across my portfolio from that class recently. I had always heard a tune with this.

EVENTUALLY
[Verse 1]
Eventually you learn to live alone
Disillusioned by fairytales that keep you close to home
Protected from reality with a stained glass truth you see
Eventually
[Verse 2]
Sheltered from changes protected from the storm
These useless relic crosses kept us safe from war
There is little change where angels stained and took my faith from me
Eventually
[Verse 3]
Freedom is a fairytale cast out in the rain
As useless as this anger and as weary as my hate
Little hope remains when there's nothing meant to be
Eventually
[Verse 4]
Eventually you learn to love again
But new hope can be false hope and false hope is pretend
[Verse 4]
Eventually you learn to love again
But new hope can be false hope and false hope is pretend
Faith can be a new beginning for souls recently set free
Eventually

Certainly works as a song! The lyric (perhaps not the performance) reminds me of Paul Simon. Maybe that's the poetic nature coming through.
Verse 3 is my favorite. Great lines there!
