OK, I'll bite -
Decided to try uploading lyrics only and trusting SUNO with my prompts to generate music - this is a song I've had hanging around for 25 years but never felt I had the time or chops to musically pull off -
My opinion: Music is a bit cheesier than I would have wanted lol, almost feels like a Rutles song...

I'm a bit the same as you, I think it came off a bit cheesy. I think the lyric has darker shade to it than is coming across in this version. Although didn't Paul McCartney do that all the time? It's ok, but I wouldn't put it on repeat.
I'm no expert in prompting though to suggest improvements.

I didn't find the music "cheesy" but I did find it not right for the lyric. If you are interested in how to "fix that" have Suno.ai "cover" your song as it is here. THEN. . . to set the music, use the "Meta" feature on your set-up. There is also an "advanced features" button below the song set up field, and you can set it for who "weird" you want it, how true to the uploaded song to be covered, and how true to the setup regarding genre you want it. Hit the go button, and it will give you two new songs. If you don't like how they sound, change things in the setup and the "advanced features" area. and hit go again. Takes only a few seconds. If that still isn't right to your ears, make other adjustments in instruments, advanced features, genre, and even such things as male or female voices, chorale backup singers, etc. I never make fewer than 8 versions, and then have to leave them alone for a few days before I can tell which I really like best. It sounds like more work than it is. Really just depends on how much you want to put into it to make it work for you.
