Cut Of Your Jib
Three more songs to record for my upcoming acoustic EP, but I felt the need to rock out so here we go! This track will likely be on my fourth album next year. Here's 'Cut Of Your Jib':
Cut Of Your Jib
Music and words by Chris Price ©2023
She was raised in New Orleans
Call her the riverboat queen
Sun City and BBKing
n everythin’ in between
I fell in love I got nothin' to hide
I gotta feelin that she tellin’ me lies
I don’t care for the things she did
Listen baby I don’t like the cut of your jib
Don’t like the cut..
Peabody n Gayoso
little Chisca back in ‘33
March of the ducks this lady luck
She give me love n give it for free
I fell in love I got nothin' to hide
I gotta feelin that she tellin’ me lies
I don’t care for the things she did
Listen baby I don’t like the cut of your...
Bareback alligator ride
it was her favourite trick
A bottle of Bourbon inside
She look at me n everything click
I fell in love I got nothin' to hide
I gotta feelin that she tellin’ me lies
I don’t care for the things she did
Listen baby I don’t like the cut of your jib
Don’t like the cut..

Great song Chris! I had to look up most of the stuff in the "Peabody n Gayoso" verse, but I don't mind that! Good stuff! :)

Rockin' it out!! great song! Love the upbeat vibe. I also had to look up the expression "cut of your jib" - - learn something new everyday 😀

It's a fun song and I like all the references you included. Music is great, as well as vocals.
The switch in the chorus from talking about 'her' to talking to 'her' felt odd. Also, the tense changes line to line and I think it would be better if the tenses matched.
Are you sure he doesn't like the cut of her jib? Seems like he did -lol ;)

Thanks for listening Andrea, and for kind words.
You're right about the tenses. Like a lot of my rock n roll songs, the lyrics aren't exactly deep and meaningful, so I tend to just let the words flow.
I think he definitely liked the 'cut of her jib' when they first became, err, entangled, so to speak(!), but soon became aware that she was a rather shady individual. She must have been if she drank bourbon by the bottle and rode alligators for fun!!
Did you spot that my geography is wrong? She was raised in New Orleans whereas the rest of the song references are, I believe, in Memphis. I guess she must have upset someone back home and moved up the river!!
Hope you are keeping well.😀

Chris, your songs are always so fun it is easy just to rock out to them rather than question the lyrics.
I did wonder about the geography. The march of the ducks at the Peabody Hotel is in Memphis (although I thought it was Nashville -lol) rather than New Orleans. I did consider that there could be a duck parade in New Orleans too ;)
I'm struggling with a back injury lately, but I am hopeful it is improving, and I'll be back to all my fun activities soon.
Maybe you will consider trying 50/90 this year? It begins July 4th :)

Chris, nice to see you brought that cowbell out, and mixed it loud and proud . . . quite often I have to turn my volume down to properly enjoy your stuff, but then enjoy it I do ! (compared to other online stuff) Line drive rock and roll, and I always admire your rockin' lyrical storytelling . . . if those stories are all true, what a life you have had so far . . .
