I came across this headline in my AI feed about the labels and udio/suno

🎶 Music Labels Talking Deals with AI Music Makers Udio & Suno

  • Some of the biggest names in music, like Universal, Warner, and Sony, are chatting with AI music creation startups Udio and Suno about licensing their songs.
  • These talks could lead to deals that figure out how AI companies pay artists when their music is used to train AI models that then generate new tunes.
  • Why it matters: This is a huge step in solving the tricky puzzle of copyright and fair payment in the age of AI-generated music, and could help avoid more legal fights.

  • Good luck to musicians and songwriters everywhere if they receive fair compensation for the use of their music in training AIs.

There's also the issue of whether AI generated music will subsume human efforts over the long run. We'll have to wait and see on that one. I think there's room for both, so I hope that's where we land.

  • There are always those that want to see a live band perform. The same were said when digital art came out, that it was going to replace traditional art, yet that never happened. there still are artist using traditional mediums. If they want to use my lyrics and music train AI and they are willing to pay me, have at it..

  • Suno is just a novelty for writers who can't play or sing , I doubt any body's getting paid who uses it

Why you did not write the music , its stolen tracks . Your dreaming . All AI is a novelty for amateur song writers and why you're paying 10 bucks a month . I would leave honesty out of the equation when it comes to anything about AI.

  • I think the difference is that I'm into ai. I think I have a different perspective that normal people because I get the various tech emails on anything related to AI. :)

Heavy hitters , major labels might be paid for using their sound . There's always 1% of people who will make money with AI involved . Basically it's a toy for amateur song writers. A cash cow for Suno . it's just an annoyance for major labels .

One songwriter says to another, “I don’t understand it. We both use the same music generator. My song sounds so much better than your song. Yet, yours is soaring up the charts and mine is at the bottom.”

The second songwriter says “What did you tell the music generator to do?”

The first one says, “I told it to write me a song with an incredible melody, memorable words and a killer hook. What did you tell the music generator to do?”

The second one replies, “I told it to write me a hit.

  • Have you seen the gibberish that the AI lyrics produces? From my own experience the lyrics are nonsensical. I'm constantly battling with ChatGPT, to not change my lyrics, which is it's programming. the musicality has improved greatly. I think we both have a unique perspective. you from the music industry and myself from the tech industry

its a just a joke on Ai lyrics. Im retiring from the music industry

  • @ElvisNash - that's unfortunate, you are very talented. but if the returns are no longer there, then maybe so :(

  • I've tried from a song writers perspective and failed on selling them and tried from an artists perspective and failed . So it's time to retire from the dream and crawl out of a hole . Though reality is not attractive , it is what it is

I don't follow AI but I'm glad that you do and is sharing this information. This is great news for people who use AI.

I believe it could be a win-win for everyone. There's room for everybody (IMHO).

Suno is a gamechanger. I'm not big on Udio.

  • No one is getting paid off Suno with 12 million songs a month
