Erie and the Ohio

This is a song I wrote/recorded this last year. Inspired by driving through the small towns around where I grew up. Thank you for listening.
In every town of ash and umber
What was made so long ago
The promise that brought them
Between Erie and the Ohio
Did they all thrive in vibrant color
Primary bouquets against the oak
Evergreen, spruce, and maple
Between Erie and the Ohio
I see all the fading colors
As the pigment slowly drains
Peeling bark among the leaves now
Losing ground to the gray
Finding shapes in whitewood aster
Goldenrod is in full glow
A backdrop of brunnera
Between Erie and the Ohio
Under a lilac tinted skyline
Marigold has begun to go
Lavender grey is leavin' on time
Between Erie and the Ohio
I love all the splendid colors
Burning off the end of the day
A delightful reminder
To hold against the gray
The light of evening and of morning
Illuminates these weathered roads
As we search for all the beauty
Between Erie and the Ohio

Good song, Gabe! Clever lyrics, good vocals, and a folksy vibe. I could imagine the late Glen Campbell recording the first part of a song like this back in the 70s. Then, with the way the track builds and becomes more upbeat around the 1:25 mark and thereafter, it becomes reminiscient of REM. Nice mix of genres! Good work! 😀

Hi @gabe
Ha - when I saw the title I misread it and thought this was about moons in our solar system. 🤣
Some really nicely spun lyrics. You have a great voice that tells the story with a pleasing twang of passion which the lyric requires.
This is a well made song with a well played solo. Thanks for sharing.

Very visual. Lots of strong imagery there.
I feel like the song hit its straps when the drums kick in, and for that reason, I'd like to hear it come in a verse earlier than it currently is.
Like the guitar licks too.
Good stuff.

Hi gabe..............your Bandcamp URL link does not work. I cut and pasted, but only brought me to your site, and still, I did not find the song. The others who posted must be a lot more tenacious than I.
I'll check it out later 😏

Great lyrics which really paint a picture of places I'll probably never see. Yeah, a lovely song. I love the way this builds into a full rocker - I wasn't expecting that at the start. This is good music to my ears.😀

This is a powerful song. The remembrances a dying (or long gone) town and the glorious foliage and flowers is beautifully sad. I love the folksy feel. I hope I understood the lyrics correctly, but even if I'm wrong, it's lovely and moving.

Andrea you understood the intention of the lyrics. I was trying to paint with the colors of native flowers to Ohio. Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.0
