Fu** Off!

I just finished giving feedback on one of Elvis's songs in which I commented on the use of the word "wreck" at the end of the chorus. I said that it sounded like a dog barking to my ears, I noted that this was a highly personal interpretation and not meant to be offensive either to Elvis or the song.

I personally, tend to avoid ending song lines with words that end in "ck or k" for that reason. They just leave me with a negative earworm.

I was wondering whether others had a similar aversion to using certain letters, words, or phrases at the end of their lines, or if there are certain words that professionals tend to avoid using?

Again, my apologies to Elvis for using his song as an example for this discussion, it could have been any song!

Thanks,

Sid

Thanks Elvis, my comments refer to the use of the word "wreck" or rather words that end in "ck", it's not a reference to the quality of your particular song at all. It could equally apply to using the words, "crack, black, back or flak"!

  • @sidshovel - or daren't.. I know that doesn't end in "ck", but still. 😂😂. All joking aside, I didn't really have an issue with wreck, but then, I listen mainly to drum and bass edm. talk about repetition :).

  • Words ending in 'ck' and similar give a very clipped sound - hard to sing out on - and that can be an issue at the end of phrases. Good if you want an explosive type of sound, bad if you want a drawn out note. Use with caution.

  • The music is a bit layed back , But my voice makes the song a train wreck

  • @ElvisNash - your voice gives the song character, otherwise, it wouldn't be that great of a song.

@bhengen, @ElvisNash, Guys, you're going "off piste" here, it's about word endings not Elvis's voice. See RDM's comment!

I did read somewhere, short words such as "us" are also best avoided

Just remembered another tip. Avoid ending on the word "love", very few words rhyme with it!

I often use the close rhyme, "enough" better than glove or above!

@sidshovel - split it into two vowels and you can rhyme more 😂. watched a video of eminem rhyming with orange.. he put it into or-ange, and started freestyling on the spot :)..

AI singers what I've heard are good on diction . Humans have to watch out for mumbly mouth. If a line is not coming thru I sing it again . I sing them in a half hour

  • *going to check my songs to see if they end with "k" "ck" or love. :-)

To be honest, I never pay/paid attention. If the lyrics and rhythm are good, then I'm cool. Thanks for making me aware.

I'm learning a lot on this forum.

  • there is back in black by ac / dc.

  • It all comes down to diction , Dosen't matter what you sing
