Making a mess of things
Making a mess of things
verse
You needed a shoulder to cry on;
someone to lend an ear.
I listened and tried to console you;
but you’re not thinking clear.
pre chorus
I’ve got a girl, you’ve got a guy.
or we did before today.
Now they’re together, we’re alone.
Making another mistake.
chorus
Don’t look at me with those bedroom eyes.
I think it’s best I leave.
before I decide to stay the night;
and make a mess of things.
verse
Let’s not do this for the wrong reason;
Let's give each other time.
let’s go on walks down by the ocean;
give ourselves time to shine.
pre chorus
I’ve got a girl, you’ve got a guy.
or we did before today.
Now they’re together, we’re alone.
making another mistake.
chorus
Don’t look at me with those bedroom eyes.
I think it’s best I leave.
before I decide to stay the night.
and make a mess of things.
bridge
You had a better sense of humor than her.
You found me kinder that he was.
Perhaps we were always better together.
It’s a wonder we’re not in love.
verse
I'm thinking they did us a favor.
Perhaps they set us free.
don’t get me wrong, I want to stay.
knowing that you want me.
chorus
Don’t look at me with those bedroom eyes.
I think it’s best I leave.
before I decide to stay the night,
and make a mess of things.

My kind of song! Lovely story well thought out and constructed beautifully.
Nice twists an' turns to keep the listener hooked with a happy-ever-after ending.
I kiked this a lot Carroll, well done.

This is nice. Some depth to it. I like the Not yet - but soon vibe. Some suggestions:
I think it’s best I leave. → I think it’s best I disappear.
let’s go on walks down by the ocean; → Go on walks down by the ocean;
give ourselves time to shine. → give ourselves some time to shine.
You had a better sense of humor than her. → You have a better sense of humor than her.
but those are all minor anyway.
