Verse 4 has nothing to do with anybody on this site.. that is specific to a person who simply didn't understand that a song I wrote intentionally psychedelic, he didn't get that and another said there were to many words :).

In the outro are two words I made up to keep with the cadence - formularity and rhyement.

There is also a political reference, which out of respect, don't comment on that just the lyrics.

These lyrics are a draft and most likely I'll go back later and clean them up.

Verse 1 really did happen as I said.. there was a crow, but I changed it to raven, sitting on a fence. a hawk swooped down and in less that 5 minutes and completely gutted it.. When I went out, all that was left was a few feathers and a partial skeleton. :)

[Verse 1]

Staring out my window, at muted cloudy skies

When suddenly a red-tailed hawk quickly flew by

His talons gripped a raven, squirming, shrieking

Colorful reds and blacks on my windows streaking

[Verse 2]

Bored, channel-hopping on my cable television

A cougar took down a deer with great precision

Self-preservation the other deer abruptly fled

My screen transformed shades of brown and reds

[Chorus]

You could be the lion or sheep

The body at rest or at play

Chained by obedience you weep

Semper carpe diem, always seize the day

[Verse 3]

Now for a change away from the shock and awe

Even though truly out my window is what I saw

Now I see an Oompa-Loompa wailing and screaming

Unwittingly a sheep, but the mighty lion dreaming

[Verse 4]

And the singer-songwriters bleating off-key rhymes

Mindlessly hoof-tapping out four-four common time

While other trippy dippy romps of many words galore

Lost to the vacuous imaginations of the easily bored

[Chorus]

You could be the lion or sheep

The body at rest or at play

Chained by obedience you weep

Semper carpe diem, always seize the day

[Outro]

We are all bound and chained by our inner demons

Afraid to escape the box of self-confinement

We are all wallowing in the seas of formularity

Braying and harping when stanzas lack rhymement

Nice one Bill, could follow that easily. Quite enjoyed it actually. Survival of the fittest in stark reality!

Well written piece this, not an easy subject to put together but credit to you, a well constructed song.

    "when stanzas lack rhymement" (refinement)

    Loved it.

@sidshovel - refinement is an actual word, the point was to make it one up and still fit the music :) thanks for the comment, I truly appreciate it

Ha Ha, One day Bill, I'll actually understand what goes on between your ears. Just tried making up new words, it's a lot more difficult than it sounds!

  • @sidshovel - I wanted to use the word rhyme and I didn't want to change the other word, so i just added 'ment' to the end :). And formularity is just formulaic and familiarity combined :)

  • half poetic and conversational. Trippy song , Ya have a new genre
