Monday's Millionaires

This song was inspired by Elvis Nash's song "Trailer Park Millionaire". His song reminded me of the late-great poet, writer and painter, Charles Bukowski, when he stated the term 'Monday's Millionaires' in one of his poems. Which poem that was, I can't recall but the term stuck with me over the years.

I'm sure the lyric could use improvement and I'm still trying to come up with a more suitable chord progression. Any suggestions would be helpful but here's what I have thus far ===> https://soundcloud.com/reneelachapelle/mondays-millionaires

MONDAY’S MILLIONAIRES

[Verse 1]

Monday’s Millionaires

While they have their woes

They chalk their misery up

To the way this life goes

Whether it was one paycheck away

That brought ‘em there

Or losing someone dear to them

They thrive on the despair

[Chorus]

Monday’s Millionaires

Monday’s Millionaires

See ‘em on the corner of Main and Center

One bottle of Smirnoff to share

They ain’t runnin’ late for work

Ain’t punchin’ Uncle Sam’s clock

Don’t need to worry if the stocks are up or down

Birds of a fierce feather, they flock

[Verse 2]

Monday’s Millionaires

Huddled in a tiny room

Sharing Mad Dog and cigarettes

3 a.m. the boombox booms

Stretching their legs past noontime

Smell of dirty socks in the air

Every day is a Sunday drive

For Monday’s Millionaires

[Chorus]

Monday’s Millionaires

Monday’s Millionaires

See ‘em on the corner of Main and Center

One bottle of Smirnoff to share

They ain’t runnin’ late for work

Ain’t punchin’ Uncle Sam’s clock

Don’t need to worry if the stocks are up or down

Birds of a fierce feather, they flock

Oooh-oooh-oooh, Oooh-oooh, Oooh-oooh

[Verse 3]

Monday’s Millionaires

When you hand ‘em five bucks

It’s like hitting the Lottery

The meal-ticket they’ve struck

And I often imagine

As I’m sitting at a red light

If I would have the courage it takes

To win that sort ‘a fight

[Chorus]

Monday’s Millionaires

Monday’s Millionaires

See ‘em on the corner of Main and Center

One bottle of Smirnoff to share

They ain’t runnin’ late for work

Ain’t punchin’ Uncle Sam’s clock

Don’t need to worry if the stocks are up or down

Birds of a fierce feather…birds of that fierce feather, they flock.

  • Cool lyrics. You have enough to put together an album and call it life from my eyes
  • it paints a pretty grim picture of society , But that's the way it is in cities

    Sounds good Renee

    My favorite verse is:

    Monday’s Millionaires

When you hand ‘em five bucks

    It’s like hitting the Lottery

    The meal-ticket they’ve struck

    And I often imagine

As I’m sitting at a red light

If I would have the courage it takes

To win that sort ‘a fight

That's deep right there, maybe because that scene from a redlight always makes me think too, or maybe it's just deep. I have no illusion that they are buying food with the five though, so maybe the meal ticket they conned would be more like it. I like the vibe of the song though, and it's well written, keep after it if you think there is more to do. I will be following for updates, cool song.

  • Good song Renee. Really painting a gritty picture here.

And the music seems like a good fit to the lyrics.

    Nicely done.

My kind of song, reality on a plate.

You paint the pictures that need to be painted.

    Good song
