Apollo and I
Trying something different. Apollo was a German Sheppard who lived up the street from me.. for 12 years, he would come down to my property and just hang out..
I chose the title, because it has the same cadence as slipknot's the devil in i, two vastly different songs :)

[Verse 1]
It was a cold, wintery day
Flurries of snowflakes at play
A flash of brown fur flying by
'Twas Apollo that caught my eye
[Chorus]
Apollo and I, on any given day
together we would we'd lay
Apollo and I, a bond that's true
Never growing old, always new
[Verse 2]
Like a bullet train, he blew past
Leaving a cold wind's blast
Came and went without a sound
Completely free and unbound
[Chorus]
Apollo and I, on any given day
together we would we'd lay
Apollo and I, a bond that's true
Never growing old, always new
[Verse 3]
Never thought he'd come back
But apollo always had the knack
Of knowing when I was feeling down
And turning a smile from a frown
[Chorus]
Apollo and I, on any given day
together we would we'd lay
Apollo and I, a bond that's true
Never growing old, always new
[Bridge]
As day turns to fading light
Apollo disappears into the night,
Reappearing in the morning sun
In the open fields we would run
[Chorus]
Apollo and I, on any given day
together we would we'd lay
Apollo and I, a bond that's true
Never growing old, always new
[Outro]
Even though he's no longer around
In my soul his presence is found
A close bond that never ends
Forever for eternity my best friend

So sweet @bhengen I love dog songs as I have a few of my own but for my own dogs. Never thought to write one about a stray dog or a neighbor's dog. So happy you and Apollo got to know and help one another. This masterful bluegrass just made my day; brought a warm smile to my face. And may Apollo be resting in peace in doggie heaven!
Truly,
Renee

Thanks Renee,, apollo would spend more time at my house than at his own.. he would show up in the morning and not go home until evening.. the song was actually inspired by this painting https://sammlung.staedelmuseum.de/en/work/saint-jerome

Loved the song, good choice of music, fan of bluegrass banjo.
Any reason you chose to opt for the same rhyme scheme throughout the song?
not saying it's wrong, just have an interest in song/rhyme structure.
Thanks for posting,
Sid

@sidshovel thanks.. left it abrupt.. haven't this style, so wasn't sure about the structure.. thought I might have to change it, but when put it music, it worked so left it :)

@bhengen the same rhyme scheme throughout didn't even hit me. Looking back at it, I believe it does this song justice as your relationship with Apollo was a sure and steady relationship. Sometimes, the rhyme scheme, whether planned a particular way or not, speaks for itself.
