Clocks Don't Stop

I'm not overly satisfied with what I've got here if I'm honest...I think I'd put in in the B-sides pile.
I wrote this in reflection of one of my colleagues who retired recently after 38 years in post. I've only got a few years left before my own retirement, and the thought of it makes me quite nervous after being in work for so long. I realise that some can't wait until that time is upon them, I'm just not one of those.
Clocks Don’t Stop
Performance ends and the curtain falls
Tip your head to the crowd
Hear them calling out your name
You brought down the house take a bow
Thundering applause and a thousand encores
Plaudits for the final reprise
A lifetime ago since the start of the show
But you never did really want to leave
Clocks don’t stop when your seventeen
Time didn’t make a friend of me
Never let it chase your dreams away
Open the door and step into a new day
Raise your glass and propose a toast
To every ship that sailed through the night
All that glitters doesn’t need to be gold
No-one survives on the outside
Shake the hand of everyone that you see
Close the door and step into the rain
Don’t turn around just keep walking away
Cos you’ll never be back here again
Clocks don’t stop when your seventeen
Time didn’t make a friend of me
Never let it chase your dreams away
Open the door and step into a new day
(A lifetime ago since the start of the show
But you never did really want to leave)

I don't see what's wrong with it, Has an ethereal vibe to it.

I think there's a lot to like here, starting with the repetitive clock-like synth sounds.
Love the lyric. It's got its own unique voice and a story to tell.
I think you've put a lot of thought and effort into the instrumentation, and the verses feel very tight.
Only thing I'd look at is the chorus. It feels like there ought to be some big lush chords there, but it all feels a bit mixed up to me. You might try simplifying a bit there.

Different and enjoyable, nice song, not a musician, so no details just that I thought it was good.
Well done.

@WelshSteve Hi Steve, nice to meet you. Was checking some of your other songs on SoundCloud; so far, I really like Storm and Forgotten Few. Looks like you have a great stuff! Nice production, too!
So far as this lyric, I really like it and don't see it as a retiring from a job song but instead, leaving any place or anything you've been doing for a long time. Wishing you the best in your retirement. Just think of all the time you'll have to write new songs! And now, Another Headline just came on...you've definitely got your own sound goin' on, really cool stuff!
Write on,
Renee aka hummer

This is a wonderful song Steve. The first thing which hit me was the great vocals. This track has such great atmosphere. We all hear things the way we do, but I wouldn't change anything here. Great production..I really enjoyed this track.😀
