You Can't Swindle a Saint

YOU CAN'T SWINDLE A SAINT

You can pull another fast one on the holy mother

You can always put a face to your lies

Can condemn the holy father as if it's no bother

A blind eye can't be scrutinized

You know that there's no way you can swing and you can sway

You can deviate or just go with the vibe

You can move from left to right change from black to white

Even find a politician to bribe

You can do it up all night do it til you fight

Do it til you're under restraint

The one thing you can't do just to bend the rule

You know you just can't swindle a saint

You can't swindle no you just can't swindle

a saint

You can juck and you can jive to keep yourself alive

Someone always keeps bringing you down

Even though the tank is full someone's always in control

You wore a suit and now you're wearin' a gown

You can whistle past the grave no one is gettin' saved

Now no one wants to hear your complaint

A stopped clock is often wrong and it's gone on far too long

you just can't swindle a saint

Yeah its gone on far too long

Everything is going so wrong

Now the radio is playing that song

I heard that Matthew was found under a pew

Coutin' money with Bonaventure

I asked Simon and Jude I didn't want to be rude

Have you seen Raphael and Thomas More

You can't swindle a saint

You can't swindle

You can't swindler a saint

  • Interesting theme! Novelty factor there got my attention.

Not sure I really understand the lyric, but there's a feeling of cynicism and bitterness about modern life coming through.

I think the "You can't swindle a saint" part works best at the end where it's acting as a chorus. Earlier, where it's more of a refrain, it feels like it ought to be the full chorus to my ear.

You might try for a more dynamic melody in the verse, it feels a little narrow to me.

Not quite sure how it would fit in musically, but feels like there could be a choir chorus effect in there somewhere as harmony!

  • I like fun songs, not enough of them on the forum.

    I enjoyed this, well done.

Agree with RDM's comments, a changing melody is needed within the song to grab your attention.

I would consider also the use of an organ in there to give it more of that spiritual feel.

Did enjoy it a lot though.

    Thanks,

    Sid
