You're Wonderful, Magical!

Here's a new song I've been writing for my wife. I hope to have a temp recording of it available soon, which I will post here, but here are the lyrics for now. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

VERSE 1:

Sometimes I think the world is ending;

the walls are crushing in on me.

But then I thank my lucky stars

I found such a lovely soul as yours.

CHORUS 1:

‘Cause you, my love, you’re wonderful, magical!

Won’t you, my love, please lend me some magic, girl?

‘Cause I know, that even on my darkest days, my love,

you make my life magical.

VERSE 2:

And all my life, I’ve had so many blessings,

but none could ever compare to you.

You stole my heart, like in all the old love songs,

and I never want to be apart.

CHORUS 2:

‘Cause you, my love, you’re wonderful, magical!

Won’t you, my love, please spare me some magic, girl?

‘Cause I know, that even on my darkest days, my love,

you make me feel magical.

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK

BRIDGE:

And of all the great stories we’ve ever been told,

I’m just glad I can share mine with you.

You’ve lifted my soul to heights I never knew.

To your love, I am forever true!

VERSE 3:

I can sail any sea, I can climb any mountain,

as long as your heart belongs with me.

You lift up my soul with all of your being,

and I know that I can lift you too.

CHORUS 3:

‘Cause you, my love, are wonderful, magical.

With you, my love, I always feel magical.

And I know, that even on our darkest days, my love,

you’ll always be magical!

  • That's very touching! Some real warmth and feeling there, especially in the chorus.

My only suggestion would be to consider whether you want to build on the "magical" phrase and maybe include some references to magical things "under your spell" that type of thing. Verse 3 has quite a different feel to it, so if you were looking for somewhere to make a change I would say perhaps there. You wouldn't want to overdo it though.

  • Lovely gift to give your wife, good for you.

Agree with RDM on the "magical bit" maybe introduce why it's magical'

Since this is for your wife, she'll love it if you could introduce more feelings and emotions into the mix.

    For instance:

You stole my heart, like in all the old love songs,

and I never want to be apart.

Say the same thing but inject the love element, women pick up on those little things!

"Like in the old love songs, it was you, who stole my heart,

Together's where we'll always stay, and never be apart."

Write from the heart, and less from the mind!

Good luck with the recording, your wife's a lucky woman.

  • I look forward to hearing the lyrics and music together. For me, it makes the lyrics that much more meaningful. My only thought is it would be nice if you could incorporate a special memory that you and she have shared.
This is a great way for men to express their feelings. I’m sure your wife will indeed appreciate it.

@RainyDayMan , @sidshovel , @TomC thank you for your comments and suggestions so far. I tried to get a recording of myself this morning, but it didn't work out as planned due to technical issues. I will try again tomorrow or this weekend, but for the time being I've output this audio from MuseScore that has the acoustic guitar chord progressions / vocal melody of the song complete. It's just a computer voice with no lyrics, but this is how it should sound overall (song is in 6/4 time in D Major): https://soundcloud.com/user-547160600/youre-wonderful-magical-musescore-output

  • Got a good vibe to it! Really upbeat and inspiring.

@RainyDayMan Owen, he said that it's "...just a computer voice". I'll wait for a human being's voice. 😀

Okay! I just finally received my new mixer / interface this evening (I had to send my previous one back due to glitching audio), and I was finally able to record this demo of the song with me singing / playing guitar:

    P.S.

I am very sorry that my guitar playing isn't very good, but I've only taken around 15 months of guitar lessons.

  • Lovely to hear it as you meant it to be!

Thanks @RainyDayMan I didn't know it at the time, but I was starting to come down with a cold while I was recording this, so thankfully I was able to get the recording done. Next time I might try recording the vocals separate from the guitar, as my guitar playing still distracts me mentally a lot from my singing.

  • Yes, I do that as well. I think overall it's a benefit, though unconsciously I think the timing is better when playing both together.
