New Normal

Verse 1
You say the world is turning
Like it’s something I should cheer
Like every brand-new headline
Means we finally got it clear
You hand me shiny language
Like it’s medicine I need
But I still hear my daddy say
“Boy, don’t bite what you can’t see”
Pre-Chorus
I don’t raise my voice
I don’t storm the gate
But I feel a tremor in my bones
Like I’m about to activate
Chorus
You say “new normal” like it’s mercy
Like I oughta celebrate
But something in me snaps to attention
Manchurian candidate
I ain’t scared of change itself
I just feel the code update
Every time you say “new normal”
I don’t bend — I activate
Verse 2
You say progress is a river
And I’m standing in the way
But I feel a switch get flipped
Every time you say that phrase
I ain’t waving any flags
I ain’t digging in for war
But something in my wiring
Don’t trust unlocked doors
Pre-Chorus
It ain’t rebellion
It ain’t hate
It’s just some childhood echo
That won’t recalibrate
Chorus
You say “new normal” like it’s mercy
Like I oughta celebrate
But something in me snaps to attention
Manchurian candidate
I ain’t scared of change itself
I just feel the code update
Every time you say “new normal”
I don’t bend — I activate
Bridge (short, sharp)
Maybe I was programmed
Back when truth was black and white
Maybe I’m a sleeper cell
For simpler wrong and right
Final Chorus (lift it slightly)
You say “new normal” like it’s mercy
Like I oughta celebrate
But something in me snaps to attention
Manchurian candidate
I ain’t fighting for the past
I just can’t escape the weight
Every time you say “new normal”
I don’t bend — I activate

Fighting for the past is one thing, living in it, is another. what do you Activate? I personally don't think outlaw country is the right choice for the lyrics. I'm getting a Barry McGuire vibe to it :)

yeah New Normal, total BS. Just someone telling you that its never gong to be as good as it was before, so just get used to it.
cool song again.

I doubt Barry McGuire would say daddy . Man this sounds nothing like that song . What do you activate ? The Manchurian candidate, back to simpler times. The idea came from Bill Burr when he was joking about the Dynasty Duck Hunter , He goes back to his child hood in Sunday school , cuz basically he can't handle the new world and its questions , He's answer was God loves thieves and hookers , but not the Queers , He went back to his child hood that does fit in 2026 . But that has nothing to do with song . You activated the Manchurian Candidate when you said Barry , thats your childhood .That was 1965, this is 2026

Bill Burr, oh fuck. that explains a lot :)

Yeah , he's right , here comes the Manchurian candidate

I was trying to get you out of your box. that's all. Boy shoots shit out of his ass and says it with conviction. :)

I guess , he can't handle it , so here comes the Manchurian candidate. When does he show up , about 40 years old

Posted that twice by accident :)

I'm not sure what that means . When the future or present threatens you , the candidate takes over

You like, Burr, is not saying anything new or different. this is more of the same tired bs that everybody complains about and has for decades. you rail on others for not being unique, but there is absolutely nothing said in these lyrics, that hasn't been said before. then you put it under the outlaw country tag.
Try a different approach. when I mentioned Barry, I wasn't specifically talking eve of destruction, but the mentality behind the song. a fight song, a rail against the current regime kind of song. This song has the potential to be anthemic.
BTW, my childhood wasn't the 60's. I was born in '64,. my childhood was the 70's.

It's just a habit googling hooks . The reason is I wrote one , that was real good , had the same hook as Billy Dean hit song , So I wasted 800.00 on pitching it , So now it's a reflux habit . it's not a bad angle,

This is a fight song, so, to me, it was disappointing when you made it your go to genre0
-
Well I write outlaw country , cuz its something I can sing , Some other genre would be a waste of my time

Ok0

You really take this the wrong way , What if someone had a hook thats been done and you said nothing , Who less responsible . He just wasted $800.00 , cuz nobody gave a fuck

Well ya got a point Bill , This song is missing whiskey and a girl

I don't say anything, because, what's the point? when you get past the novelty songs, there is no hook that's unique, in my opinion. this is why I stopped listening to radio, because, when I hear a melody, a hook, a chord progression, or concept (love, politics, religion etc..), I've heard it or a variation of it before. then I get to play that fun game of where did I hear that? Look at the wrecking crew, they reused melodies and phasing. even carly simon admitted to stealing lick off burt bachrach because she thought it sounded cool. Jump into the EDM world, and there are beatmakers whose sole purpose is to make 30 second hooks to be copied. It's not uncommon to hear the same hook in 10 different EDM songs.
I only said something because you recently told another member to stop stealing hooks and come up with his own.
I'm not going to say anything more on it.

Your right fuck that guy let em waste 800. I don't wanna get involved , All radio sounds the same . So I won't say anything anymore . That'll be the new normal, from today on .
