Gravity
#3 of my Ukulele songs. Thought I'd try more of a production on this one.

Verse:
You're dangerous to contemplate
Single thought could seal my fate
Chorus:
One kiss from those ruby lips
And I'm gone beyond recall
You drag my world around -- like gravity
Verse 2:
The thought of you makes my head spin
Warping the time and space I'm in
Chorus 2:
One look in those stellar eyes
And I begin to fall
You drag my world around -- like gravity
Bridge:
Momentum's building, I can't slow down
I'm caught within your sway
Each step I take just pulls me down
Verse 3:
It's plain you've got a hold on me
Twisting my reality
Chorus 3
One word, and my whole world shifts
I'm helpless to your call
You drag my heart around — like gravity
Like gravity

Wow! This is a really special song Owen. You're doing some clever things with that uke on this! This is one of my favourites of yours I reckon.
There's some really good songs on the forum leading up to Christmas, and this is one of them. I love it.😀
Happy Christmas!

I think it's a cool song with a cool vibe. You could use this as a start and further build the arrangement with other uke tracks and other instruments/sounds. For example, you could start with the centered main uke riff alone as an intro before the drums, bass and vocals kick in, you could add complimentary counter-melodic uke riffs spread left and right to build the arrangement in the second verse section from the first verse section, you could add strummed ukes and other more legato sounds for choruses, etc.

@ChrisPrice Thanks Chris! Appreciated coming from you!
@bhengen Thanks for checking it out Bill!
@HoboSage Appreciate the suggestion! I'm probably not going down that route. Not sure I could pull it off if I did! But I wanted to emphasize the Uke track and keep that very prominent - keep it a Uke song that can be played stand alone, which was my purpose in writing it. But thank you, it's a thoughtful suggestion!

Nice write Owen, it's like that sometimes. Sucked in by their gravitational pull

The lyrics are good, but I love the way you put it into music. Sounds a bit „experimental“ and I like it. Much better than all the mainstream stuff.0

A very creative Uke! Love it.
The whole song sounds very unique and cool.

Very nice song, Owen, through and through. I find it to be mesmerizing. Please pardon the misspelling when I put in my 2-cents over at SoundCloud. Had to go and look it up! And I love the 2 line verses; rare and refreshing. Now, you got me wanting to write one like that!
Anyway, sounds like you're having yourself a ball with your new toy. Happy for you!

Thanks Renee! It has been fun. I don't really know whether I'll keep using it or not. I have my 3 songs now for the next Open Mic session at my local venue, so that part is done. May come down to whether I can write stuff to use both guitar and ukulele.

You know, it’s actually been so long since I’ve heard a song from you. I love these lyrics so much. They have this sort of mysterious, sultry vibe to them. The chords you put with it also help to set that mood. It’s almost trance-like. As Tom said, very cool!0

Thanks Tommy! I was wanting to do something different to traditional uke strumming and found that picking patterns from the guitar transfer across quite well. "Sultry" is a good word for at least parts of this.

Very happy, Owen, your song is in my loop on SoundCloud. That Uke hooks me from the very onset! And I love the way she keeps on....like Gravity.

I enjoyed your first two uke songs, Owen, but I think this third one is the best of the three. The entire backing tracking has hints of Sting, Medywn Goodall, and maybe a bit of David Arkenstone. Good stuff all around! Hopefully your work with the uke is only beginnning. I enjoyed listening! 😀
Cheers,
Joseph

Thanks Joseph! I don't know if I'll do more Uke songs or not. Just wait and see how I feel about it.

Loved the focus on the plucked ukelele. This is the type of song that I don't think anyone will ever be able to program something to write. This is artistically unique in (what I consider) a very positive way. Loved it.

@Hardtwistmusic Thank you so much!

Very original song Owen!0

I really like this. I don't know that I've ever heard a song that used finger-picked uke instead of strumming. It has a very spare, stripped-down sound that ties in with the dreamy quality. Your voice works well on this one too, although I wonder if it wouldn't sound even better with a little pitch correction? I confess to using that a lot LOL.

Very good! Can you play electric guitar? I would like to hear that. If you don't you should try it because it's very similar to the ukulele and the sounds you'll get will be awesome. Try it, please!

Thank you @Skandha ! Appreciate the listen.
@OnlyGavin I've not heard any finger-picked uke either - not that I've looked very hard. I was surprised how easily it transferred from guitar. Yes, my voice is very pitchy. Pitch correction is probably a good idea. I have tried previously, but it sounded very artificial - no doubt I need more skill in using it! I'm also a bit of two minds about how much effort to put into my recordings. I don't see any of them as being a final product, just a way to demonstrate the song. But it's worth seeing what tools are available now and how it sounds.
@robwills I have an electric guitar, and I play it sometimes, but it never feels quite natural to me. The stuff I've tried sounds like it was written for an acoustic guitar and ported across. I've never felt at home on it the way you are. And I suck at lead breaks! Small, atmospheric riffs I can manage.

I got the basic version of Melodyne back when it was pretty inexpensive I believe it's $99 now, although maybe they have a sale from time to time. I was dubious at first because I associated pitch correction with a distorted sound, but I have to say I find the results amazingly natural. When I recorded a couple of tracks at a Nashville studio, I found that they used the same program. It was a more upscale (and far more expensive) version, but they were doing basically the same things with it as I could do with my cheapo version. I'm pretty sure most of the pros are using it on almost every recording.

Thanks @OnlyGavin that's really useful info, and within my budget too! I'll definitely check that out. I've heard of Melodyne before, good to know someone who's actually using it!
