Ability To Dance
© 2025 Barry Williams Lyrics
Music and vocals AI Blues Band
[Intro Music]
Here’s some wisdom…
My Daddy dropped on me.
Live your life like this son…
And you’ll live your life free.
(he said)
Always help your brothers,
Don’t be scared to take a stand.
March to your own drummer,
If it means leaving the band.
If it feels wrong don’t you do it,
That’s what it means to be a man....
[chorus]
Wake up every morning,
and thank God for the chance.
To listen to his music,
And your ability to dance.
(whoo)
[guitar solo]
Say exactly what you mean
Always look them in the eye
Trust what your gut is saying,
Cause your gut's probly right.
Don’t give up on your dreams
And you’ll live a happy life.
(Whooo Lawd)
[guitar solo]
[chorus]
Wake up every morning
and thank God for the chance
To listen to his music
And your ability to dance
Now go listen to his music
and show him how you dance
[Outro]

Nice! Strong lyric.
As I was reading this, I was imagining a more bluegrass style, but this blues version works well.
Good stuff.

@sidshovel Thanks, this is the song you helped make happen the word ability is the one AI couldn't say.
@ElvisNash That's high praise man, I appreciate you taking the time.
@RainyDayMan I never even thought of this as a bluegrass lyric, now that you mention it, I guess I could see it. This one kinda took me back to my roots, 1968-70 we lived right across the street from Motown records, and I was really into that sound.

Glad to have helped Barry, pleasure.

@Barry love this lyric. Haven't listened yet, but will. I almost got stuck on the chorus and believe if you would've capitalized the "H" in 'his' I wouldn't have gotten confused. I get it, you're referring to God in your chorus but when the chorus came in from your father, that's where I got lost reading the lyric. Anyhow, I'm probably the only one. Now, I'm gonna listen!
Love this as a whole! And if this is really about your Dad, wow! What a great dad! Listening, it makes completes sense upon listening to the chorus that you're speaking of God.
Thank you for this treat of a song,
Renee

@Renne, thanks for the kind words and taking the time to listen, unfortunately this is fiction, but if I had a son this and so much more I would tell him about, but I have told my daughters, and now they will have this song to remind them when I’m gone. Crap I think that could be a new hook!
Let me sing you a song
To remind you when I’m gone
Let me leave you with a song
One that you can sing along
Let me sing you a song
Or something like that lol0 -
Bill, I’m a fan and a half of southern rock for sure, maybe in the future I will try it that way, but for now I’ve got other things rattling around in my head.0
