Ain't Got No Home

For my brother, Dale. I miss him so much. He is my only brother, thus the feeling of no home. Thank you for any feedback you might offer.

AIN’T GOT NO HOME

[Verse 1]

Since Mom passed over that rainbow

Things haven’t been the same

Since Mom passed over that rainbow

Nothin’ in my heart but rain

I ain’t got no home

Ain’t got no home, Brother

I ain’t got no home since you’ve been gone

[Verse 2]

Ain’t just a thousand miles between us

There’s always the telephone

Ain’t just a thousand miles between us

If I wanted to, I can’t go home

I ain’t got no home

Ain’t got no home, Brother

I ain’t got no home since you’ve been gone

[Bridge]

Heart of my heart

Bone of my bone

Blood of my blood

Why you gotta be a stone?

 [Verse 3]

Riding our bikes windin’ backroads

How I wish we could go back

Riding our bikes ‘gainst the wind and cold

I suppose the odds were stacked

I ain’t got no home

Ain’t got no home, Brother

I ain’t got no home since you’ve been gone

[Bridge]

Heart of my heart

Bone of my bone

Blood of my blood

Why you gotta be a stone?

[Verse 1 Return]

Since Mom passed over that rainbow

Things haven’t been the same

Since Mom passed over that rainbow

Nothin’ in my heart but rain

I ain’t got no home

Ain’t got no home, Brother

I ain’t got no home since you’ve

Since you’ve

Since you’ve been gone.

I like the lyric a lot, it's relatable to me, as I'm sure it is to many. I've traveled for work for so long I don't have a home anymore, just a place I keep my stuff. I will listen later I'm supposed to be working. Really like the bridge a lot

  • @Barry thank you! I know I can be hard on the ears so no need to rush listening. Just the fact you took the time out of your busy day to read my lyric and to comment is enough for me.

    Now, go get 'em, tiger!

@Renee This is much better with the music, some pretty fancy guitar riffs in this one too. I lost my Mom last year so there's another way I relate to this one too. I still absolutely love the bridge, it leaves me wondering if this is about your Mother and your Brother tho, either way I liked it a lot. I'm still at work but there are less people around the last hour of the day.

  • beautiful lyrics, as always raw and from the heart :)

  • This one hits hard, in fact it kicks in the guts.

Well done Renee, it really is a powerful and emotional song.

From the heart Renee, where all the best songs lie.

  • I loved the lyrics too.
It’s all so heartfelt that you don’t want to highlight the defects of the technical implementation. I would like to hear it sung by a professional singer. Really touching.
One note: I don’t think your Mom became a stone…🙂🙏
  • @Skandha thanks so much for your input. Yeah, I'm no singer for certain. So far as Mom becoming the stone, it's actually my brother who became the stone. hmmm....this warrants a closer look at the lyric because obviously it's not clear. The song is really about my brother having gone estranged since our Mom passed away.

Anyway, appreciate your lovely comment and nice to meet you!

I did get the lyric right then, one of my brothers and I were already estranged when Mom passed, so this one hits me in the feels even more than it did before. Here's to things working out for you going forward.

  • The singing is fine and playing , The story is a bit off on making sense , but you can nail that

    Very heartfelt Renee

Hey there Renee. It’s so heartbreaking when you lose one family member, and it basically causes you to lose another in the same instant. You captured that sentiment so perfectly. The sense of loss really runs deeply through these lyrics and your vocal delivery sells it. A professional could hit all the same notes but it hits hard because it’s coming from your soul.

@BeatlesFan64 you know I never thought of it quite that way like you stated; losing one family member to lose another in the same instant tho' that's precisely what happened. Dang, you're good at seeing the underlying point; the nut of the song! And I do believe I should resing it. It was my 2nd take and sometimes, you just can't recapture that raw emotion of a new song, so there's that.

Thank you for your kind thoughts,

    Renee

  • @HummerWisdom -i Renee, would keep it as is, as it reflects the emotion behind the lyrics. Art isn’t always about perfection. Art is about self expression. Being true to yourself. It won’t always resonate with everyone. Like my song quantum being, I knew that song wasn’t going to speak, but that’s ok. Am I going to change it? No, because it’s unique. Just as your vocals to this song are unique, they speak from the soul, and in the end that’s all that matters.

I might’ve given off the wrong impression Renee, but I was basically trying to say what bhengen phrased much better. I think your vocal right now is perfect precisely because of the raw emotions. It’s up to you if you want to re-record it or not though, but it’s a great song either way.
  • @bhengen thank you. While the bigger part of me agrees, the larger part of the audience won't. I'm just happy to have finally written something that makes sense regarding my brother's estrangement. For me, these personal songs truly are the hardest to write. Thank you for your encouragement and I can't wait to hear how your train station song comes about! If I miss it somehow, please tag me, thanks!
