My old Truck

Cove
Cove Alabama, U.S.

This song is about a southern Appalachian man's love for his old truck, that like him has seen its better days. If anyone is not familiar with the term two sixty -air, it's a term us old southerners use for older trucks that came with no a/c or if the a/c is broken. To keep from sweltering in the southern heat, you roll down both windows and go sixty miles per hour. Old cars came with four-sixty air.

I drive her over the mountain

I drive her into town

she don't look like much

but she never let me down

my old truck

runs on prayer and luck

she's my old truck

She got three on the column

she got two-sixty air

a little rusty in the bed

but I don't care

my old truck

runs on prayer and luck

she's my old truck

I load her up with firewood

'til her rear's on the ground

it's a struggle up the hills

it's a breeze going down

my old truck

runs on prayer and luck

she's my old truck

I drove her through the woods

through the ice and snow

she took me through places

where a rabbit couldn't go

the day will surely come

I know it ain't no doubt

I'll have to put her out to pasture

but I'll never part her out

'cause she's my old truck

talking 'bout my old truck

she's my old truck

and I love her

Thanks for your comment, Elvis. I'll check in to that.

  • I like the vibe. Reckon there'll be more than a few who'll enjoy this.

You might try a change up in the melody at "My old truck", give it a bit of a lift there.

I'd like to hear an ending rather than a fade out, but that's personal preference.

Thanks for the explanation on two-sixty air, I wouldn't have got that otherwise.

Really good weite, struggle up the hill, and a breeze going down is my favorite lines, this took me back to my 70 C10, she want much to look at but neither was I. I pictured you all playing that on a porch or around a fire, enjoyed it.

@RainyDayMan Thanks for your comment and suggestions. Some of my songs, I fade and some, I don't. I guess it's according on how long the outro is. This song does hang in D a lot, so I'll try going up to G for a couple of bars at that point and see if it fits. Thanks very much!

    @ Barry

Thanks Barry, Yep, I love the old trucks and cars too. They were so easy to work on. All you needed was 3 or 4 standard wrenches, a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. Those days are long gone.

@StoneFlowers Thanks so much! J J Cale, wow! You're making my head swell! (Just kidding) I'm 1,000 miles away from even being in the same ballpark with J J, Thanks again!

Love 'er through and through, Toney! Great love song! Nice groove, too. And thank you for the education on the two and four sixty air. I would've had no clue.

Pretty cool song! I always love that blues progression when I hear it. It’s so simple but man there’s just something magic about it. Lyrics are appropriately affectionate. That truck’s seen better days, but she ain’t done yet.

Elvis, AAABA structure. I had no idea what that meant, so I googled it. Now, I have something to dumbfound some of my friends with!

BeatlesFan64 Thanks very much! Yep, it's just a simple shuffle. Didn't take very long write When I saw the image I posted with the song I was thinking, I wish that was my old truck and it just took off from there.

its basically a verse song , with a bridge thrown in . The last one I remember was "To The Moon And Back ", Luke Bryan. The top 10 songs of 2024 are all 1980 retro songs per Rick Beato . He hated some and loved a few

  • @cove. Your song on SoundCloud came on directly after one of mine 2x this morning. The more I hear it, the more I LOVE it!

@Renee and your song How Much More Can People Take, plays on mt page. I love that song!

  • Now this is breath of fresh air. I see that JJ Cale already got a mention. I thought about that comparison before I read the other comments. This is fabulous.😀
