Sad Sack

Since a some of you wanted to hear one of my previous songs backed up by more music, I decided to use a backing track from YouTube on the the following. I feel this lyric needs more work...like landing on some positive note, but here goes.. and keeping in mind, backing tracks generally are limiting in regard to chord progressions but in my case that's probably a good thing!

SAD SACK

[Verse 1]

If not for my hound dog, Lucy

I’d stay in bed all weekend long

Lucy’s brown eyes never lie

She’s happy to be in my song

I keep promising myself

One of these blankety days

I’ll put my heart back out there

But I’m stuck in my ways

[Chorus]

I’m a sad sack

Sad as any sack can be

Got no one to love

No one loves me

If I’d known ahead ‘a time

This is how my life would go

I would’ve held onto you

Like no time left to borrow

[Verse 2]

Finally, got out of the house

Walking Lucy at the strip mall

A cloudy December day

Scurrying before more rain falls

An older couple up ahead

They’re walking hand in hand

How I ended up a lone wolf

Just the blue heron could understand

[Chorus]

I’m a sad sack

Sad as any sack can be

Got no one to love

No one loves me

If I’d known ahead ‘a time

This is how my life would go

I would’ve held onto you

Like no time left to borrow

[Instrumental]

[Chorus]

I’m a sad sack

Sad as any sack can be

Got no one to love

No one loves me

If I’d known ahead ‘a time

This is how my life would go

I would’ve held onto you

Like no time left to borrow, yeh

[Tag]

If I’d known ahead ‘a time

This is how my life would go

I would’ve held onto you

Like no time left to borrow..

  • I’m a sad sack

Sad as any sack can be

I think that works very well.

It's probably better to have some upbeat music, as you have it, than something morose, might have brought it down too much.

Good one, Renee, catchy chords and melody, and I agree with RDM, with lyrics like this, it’s nice to have a super upbeat track so that it balances out a bit. I also love how you have those enthusiastic oohs in a lot of your songs. It’s like your trademark haha.
