[verse 1]
To you, a parting of the ways,
me, more a partin' of the waves.
You left after I mentioned wife,
nemesis of a single mans life.
[verse 2]
Up to then, it couldn't be better,
an ex, but you could forget her.
You're all my dreams come true,
All day, I spend thinkin' of you.
[chorus]
When you left, I cried for you,
you swore to stay in touch.
If you broke my heart in two,
I'd still love you twice as much.
[verse 3]
We wined an' dined an' loved,
food an' drink I'd had enough.
It all came crashin' down,
first hint of a wedding gown.
[chorus]
When you left, I cried for you,
you swore to stay in touch.
If you broke my heart in two,
I'd still love you twice as much.
[verse 4]
I wanted to turn it 'round.
too late, you'd gone to ground.
the ex, she hadn't gone far,
took you back, just as you are.
[chorus]
When you left, I cried for you,
you swore, to stay in touch.
If you broke my heart in two,
I'd still love you, twice as much.
[bridge]
I can't stop lovin' you,
I took you back today,
no matter what you do.
If single's the only way.
[chorus]
When you left, I cried for you,
you swore, to stay in touch.
If you broke my heart in two,
I'd still love you, twice as much.
[outro]
It took only a couple of years,
before everythin' went to hell.
I'm glad you stood your ground,
my husband and kids do as well.

I think this works smoothly as a pop vocal. Very easy listening.
Should it be my husband and kids "are" as well?
It's a nice twist at the end, though I think it would with or without the outro.

Yes, initially, I had "thank you" but forgot to change the next line.
true, but he had to get his comeuppance in the end!

Nice lyrics Sid, really heartfelt and I think the melancholy pop arrangement fits perfectly. I love the title lyric in particular. It’s an interesting way to phrase something that’s been said so many times, and sums up the central theme so well. I agree with you, the outro is essential. It ties up the story nicely. Great job again!0
