I'm a redneck rabble rousing,
Wild Child of the South.
I like picking on the front porch,
After the sun goes down.
Raised on grits and gravy ,
Sweet tea and homemade wine
I like dirt roads with fishing holes,
And having a good time
That's me, I’m free, I’m free, I’m free
I'm southern born and southern free
On Saturdays, I raise some hell,
on Sundays I believe.
If redneckness is a sickness
Then I'm loving my disease.
I like to crank, all three Hanks,
Skynyrd and both the Keith's.
I love mud bogs and hunting hogs,
And I don't wear no sleeves.
That's me, That’s me,
I'm southern born and southern free
Just the way our lives are sposed to be
I'm southern born and southern free
Now if you ain't from Dixie,
It might be hard to comprehend,
What it means to me,
for me to be,
From here in Dixieland.
I love my life.
I love my wife
and l love being free
The roots run deep down underneath
this Dixie family tree
Yeah, that's me, that’s me, that’s me
I'm southern born and southern free
Just the way our lives are sposed to be
I'm southern born and southern free

funny you should mention skynyrd, because the title sounds like a skynyrd or molly hatchet title :) you definitely have southern pride in your lyric.. great melody also :(

That came out well! Good match between lyric and music, and it just feels good.

As a lyrics and melody only type of guy I was interested to hear more about this AI assistance that is out there. This was done with an app on my phone, after 20 or so different versions this was closest to how I heard it in my head. Using AI makes me feel like I've cheated since there is no way I could take it beyond words and melody myself.1
-
eeeyeah man, love your tune. I spent many years of my life deep in "the heart of dixie", Alabama. What app did you use on this? And what is that wild looking acoustic guitar on your home page?
1 -
Koro AI is the app, the guitar I got from a guy in California on EBay who makes crazy looking guitars 15 years ago.
On the app I selected the style and genre and it did the rest. I'm curious how people feel about using apps to create the music?1 -
How people feel about AI around here is a bit of a long story, maybe someone else will chime in. There are some rules in the rules section that basically say it's ok to use as long as you at a minimum wrote the lyrics. Been listening to your other stuff it doesn't sound like some of those songs are AI generated.
1 -
This was my first experience with AI, I absolutely write my own lyrics and have a melody in mind at the very least, just don't have the ability to play and sing. If it's forbidden I'm happy to abide. But it does feel like cheating1
-
Not forbidden Barry. You wrote the lyric so it's all good.

it certainly matches Nashvilles take on things , nice job man , great hook. I'm over AI , it is what it is ,a handy tool for who don't play or sing . Nashville hates AI , it takes away from session players who make their living , more obstacles , what's new
1 -
Thanks Elvis, I get it about AI and agree it's another tool but it does feel like cheating to me. Before a couple weeks ago I didn't even know it was possible.
This song was the first time I tried it and part of me says what's the difference between that and paying for a demo which I have done once as well. My preference is to collaborate my lyrics and vision with a musicians since my lyrics come from my human experiences which a computer can't know.1 -
it does not matter . AI sites are not being shutdown . 186,000 songs a day are being done on them sites
Recording with session players is pricey , if your not trying to invest on being the artist or pitching songs , its just a outlet of producing cheap tracks and being heard with your lyrics , Like I said I'm over it , it is what it is.

@Barry I'm hearing you loud and clear as I too, excel more at the lyrics than the music. That said, ALL you need are the words and melody to make a song YOURS and yours alone. I get it. I too, struggle with the music HOWEVER, when I slap my name on it, I KNOW it's mine, ALL mine (unless I have a co-write). NO feeling in the world than OWNING something that YOU created!
Love ya,
Renee
And I hope this helps more than hurts. Inspired by you. And just 3 chords to boot! ===> https://soundcloud.com/reneelachapelle/artificial-intelligence 😊
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Well, I may not be the best in the business
Of making songs sound great
But I can tell you one thing there’s no replacing
And that would be your heart
[Chorus]
Artificial Intelligence
No thank you
Artificial Intelligence
No thank you
What you do with your music is your business
I admit your songs sound great
But if you’re looking to find your very own voice
A bot is not your best mate
[Chorus]
Artificial Intelligence
No thank you
Artificial Intelligence
No thank you
[Bridge]
There is a Supreme Intelligence there for the taking
Each one of us a celestial work of art in the making
[Chorus]
Artificial Intelligence
No thank you
Artificial Intelligence
No thank you
[Chorus]
Artificial Intelligence
No thank you
Artificial Intelligence
No thank you

@HummerWisdom are you talking about ai in general, or specific to the the music industry. just curious
1 -
@bhengen in this particular song, the music biz. However, it could perceived as in general via the Chorus. Personally, I am DEAD against A.I. on all fronts. It is a complete and utter destruction of what it is to be human. And it is, I believe with all my heart, anti-God as the Bridge depicts. That said, I hope I've clarified it for you, my friend. BUT. Each to their own. As V2 shows.
Truly,
Renee

@HummerWisdom . ok... ai is also being used in genetic research for cures like cancer... putting it back to music.. elvisnash is correct this is a tool. that's all it is.. another creative outlet..If I have a piece that orchestral based, then I don't have to spend the thousands of dollars to produce it. if I want to create something more than 3 chords in 4/4 time, this allows me to do that.
1 -
Renee, I hear you once again 3 chords and the truth. I have so many lyrics and melodies I've written that I'd love to hear recorded that I am tempted by AI which I never even heard of two weeks ago by the way, and the song turned out great in my opinion but I did kinda feel like I cheated some how. I did do maybe 20 versions till I heard the melody very close to mine but the whole thing took maybe an hour.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do going forward, but I respect what you and others have stated on the subject.1 -
@Barry I LOVE the way your song turned out; got a GREAT groove, great lyric and while I'm a tad-tempted to use A.I., I know my heart too well. I'm old so what can I say? Anyway, try not to sell yourself too short.
Ultimately, the song is NOT the fancy production, but as you know, the words and the melody. Should you decide to go solo, just imagine all of the instrumentation. That's what I sort 'a do. And I mean, c'mon, like I'm a singer? I KNOW I'm not, but somehow I'm getting over myself, lol! And believe it or not, I actually have a coupe of fans! My hound dog, Lucy being my #1! 🤣

I would like to know how it sounded if you actually played it and recorded it.
I currently don't like AI in any way for anything. Recently I relied on AI for gift return information of a particular store, because that information was not known correctly by many of the sales representatives. AI indicated everything was fine but it wasn't. Thankfully I was able to sort it out before hand. Maybe AI will be useful in the future, including in art, but I tell you, there's nothing like the human brain! Calculating figures is one thing; being able to get to the truth or create something is totally different.

would like to know how it sounded if you actually played it and recorded it.
Since I don't play an instrument, it would sound like me singing it a capella with a similar melody0 -
Everytime new technology comes out , we hear its the devil , its just machines. The $49.00 plug in's is also the devil I suppose. That phony sax does sound evil, it must be the devil . Well country music its always the devil , Satan is to proper . If ya thing about it the A vowel is better then I
Get that AI to work better maybe I'll live to be 300 years old , I might know something by then , but have my doubts. 15 wifes by then
1 -
I believe we didn't say that "storing" of sound was the devil. It's only be a little over a 100 years since that technology. It was miraculous and embraced by the world. Imagine music without it? AI is artificial and it clearly shows.

I'm curious how you all feel about other tools like Band In Box, or the use of CGI in films, or even filters for vocals? Where exactly is the line?0
-
I think the line is the original input from a human being the basis for the sound. For example, you record a vocal, the input, and then put an effect on it like an echo or phase shifter. That's still genuine and it comes across as so. What AI does, at least what I know of it, is simply take an idea(s), not a input, and creates from that idea. It comes across as fake and cold. Although I will say I heard an AI generated song by Queen, I forget the name, and it was spectacular, if a little cold.
1 -
Band In Box sounds horrible at least the ones I heard . Every time you use Atomos to mix your using AI
Why would anyone care if a lyricists use AI , silly another creative outlet , its also not the devil or demons , its genius
1 -
@ElvisNash so I won't get the plague if I use whatever helps me to create my lyrics and melodies into something audible? I really do wish I could play guitar, or piano, or even drums, I can hear what I want it to sound like as I write, I can strum, or I can make the chords on the fret board, but I can't do both at the same time, I can't imagine singing and playing. Too many concussions maybe?
I can see my using AI on this one has rocked the SS TSF, so maybe I will refrain from it on here, but I plan to use it in the future but only post my lyrics here in an attempt to improve my writing and maybe help someone else.

Use AI , They do a good job . I think it funny now . every plug in you buy online is a form of AI
Its calling the kettle black lol

Great Job Barry! Excellent lyrics. Take it to Nashville! It's a hit for sure!
1 -
All I know about Nashville is that it's in Tennessee, I wouldn't know the first thing about pitching a song. I'm glad you liked it though, the guys I know that inspired the lyrics all like it that's enough for me, from what I've been told they were blasting it from their swamp buggy last weekend and people were asking whose song is that? Saying that's a great song. That made me smile
1 -
I never liked AI since the first time I heard of it.
As far as the South is concerned I wish it lived it up more to the all the good, fabled things it's know for - gentlepeople, hospitality and decency.

We are all entitled to our own opinions, Lord knows I have mine.
