Blame It On God (tweaked)

Thank you so much @RainyDayMan & @sidshovel for your most helpful feedback on this song. I feel it's MUCH better. What do you think?

BLAME IT ON GOD

Don’t know how He takes it

Why He doesn’t turn me to dust

Hatin’ on the one who loves me

When He’s the one to trust

And I hate myself for saying:

‘God dammit’ when I do

I should be praying instead

When I’m feeling blue

[Chorus]

When you’re out ‘a straw-men

Can’t go through it again

The most perfect patsy there’s ever been:

Blame it on God

Blame it on God

He’s slippery, that ol’ snake

Turning things upside down

Comes off the angel of light

The Devil’s what you found

I know I don’t deserve it

Don’t deserve a second shot

I should be struck by lightening

But the bad guy, God’s not

[Chorus]

When you’re out ‘a straw-men

Can’t go through it again

The most perfect patsy there’s ever been:

Blame it on God

Blame it on God

[Bridge]

The whole world blames it on God

Seems, it’s an epidemic

The whole world blames it on God

Seems, it’s schizophrenic

Don’t know how He takes it

Why He doesn’t turn me to dust

Hatin’ on the one who loves me

When He’s the one to trust

And I hate myself for saying:

‘God dammit’ when I do

I should be praying instead

Knowing He’ll see me through

[Chorus]

When you’re out ‘a straw-men

Can’t go through it again

The most perfect patsy there’s ever been:

Blame it on God, why do we?

Blame it on God, why do we?

When you’re out ‘a straw-men

Can’t go through it again

The most perfect patsy there’s ever been:

Blame it on God

Blame it on God

Go ahead an’ blame it on God all you want to

But God knows better, yeah-ee-yeh

God Knows Better.

  • Now you're cooking! Feels like the music and the lyric are lining up.

I particularly like how you sing "Blame it on God" now.

As another suggestion, try a little variation at the start of the chorus by opening on a major chord there (compared to the minor chord in the verse). Something like C, D, Em, C before you get back to that Em at Blame it on God to finish off and bring you back to a minor sound for the next verse.

  • @RainyDayMan definitely will try it. I'm lost when it comes to the music, really. And just having a cool progression is sometimes all it takes for me to flourish as I used the last one you suggested. Inherently, I knew I should do something different with the chorus and tried but kept flopping. Thanks again!
