A Long Time Ago

A LONG TIME AGO
A long time ago when I couldn't see the forest
For the trees that were blocking the view
I'd stumble here and there, half-aware and with a flourish
Hoping that I'd stumble into you
And all of the time I wasted doing nothing
Thinking everything was slipping away
Never said a word, but it was clear I was bluffing
I just didn't have the heart to say
But now I feel alright
I feel you hold me tight
And I can hardly comprehend
I have you here with me
In actuality
And not just a voice on the other end
If on a winter's night
A traveler sets her sight on me
I really think this might just be the one
None luckier than these
Discovering their invisible cities
Feeling the breeze under the jaguar sun
Lost in a maze with no sense of my direction
I was following the easiest path
Wrong turns didn't seem to warrant a correction
I'd just settle with the aftermath
But now I feel alright
I feel you hold me tight
And I can hardly comprehend
I have you here with me
In actuality
And not just a voice on the other end

Hi Matt,
Great song, enjoyed it very much.
Captured the feelings alluded to in the prelude.
Music and vocals were excellent, nice presentation.
A song to be proud of.

I can’t think of a better subject to write about. The vocals were really good, Matt, and the music and mix sounded great. Great song!0

Aced it...beautiful flow as is the case in all your songs. So easy to listen to over and over and...

Smooth as butter.
I really liked your rhymes with night, sight, might moving further into the middle of each line.
I might have the vocals a bit more forward in the mix, but I really think that's just personal preference, there's nothing wrong as is.
Lovely song. Enjoyed listening to it.

Very English 80's sounding, like Squeeze or even a Duran Duran soft pop song. I don't believe it is radio ready; it needs some upgrades but once that's done could be.

A great song Matt. Very catchy. The lead vocal is great while the backing vox work really well. It sounds like an interesting fusion of 60's and 80's music to me.
I'm struggling to hear a drum track, though it feels like there should be one. Nothing over the top but to give it a bit more punch.
I really enjoyed this. 😀

Really nice easy listening song. I really appreciate the vocal melodies you've come up with here. Gives me that nice Kinks/60s vibe with the music but the vocals give me a fleet foxes/more modern feel. When you say Pop-Exercise are you seeing this more as practice with structure and lyrics? Or can you elaborate on it?

Thanks very much for listening, everyone.
@ChrisPrice - there are definitely drums there. Not too forward, but they're there!
@OutOfTowner - I guess exercise wasn't the right word, because there's never an intent to practice any particular thing when I'm writing. Perhaps I'd have luck doing that, though! This is just another instance of me being drawn to the first catchy melody that came to my head and then running with it.
