Is Ai as good as they claim?

As a regular user of Ai, both Suno and Udio, I come across many people commenting on how good these apps are in producing high grade songs, but are they?
I would like postings to confine the subject to the physical use of the apps and their output rather than the impact they have on outside factors.

One of the most popular threads on this site was one I started called Ai Issues.
It looked at, what was then two relatively new apps, Suno and Udio. Over time Suno began to dominate the comments but in general terms both were experiencing the same problems. The general press were portraying these apps as the Wunderkind of the Tech Bro's but in reality are they?
In my opinion, they are not, I've used both for months on hundreds of songs. The output is essentially a crap shoot, if your lucky, you get a good one, if not you waste hundreds of credits (money) chasing a dream!
Some perfectionists have gone through thousands of credits. It is in the interests of the companies that users go through as many credits as possible per song.
What is common to both apps is the number of problems that occur during a song generation (creation).
There are a lot of things that can (and do) go wrong, even now, you can prompt for a male singer and out comes a female voice. In the pursuit of more and more features, the basics are being ignored. There are few options to adjust or correct, those that are there, don't work properly. I often referred the experience to "whack-a-mole" because that's what it felt like. In an effort to correct one problem you caused another and then another.
I often, and still do, advise people not to subscribe for the full package. If you are going to use something that results in you becoming highly frustrated, best not pay for the privilege.

I think it's amazing they can create anything at all! But yes, it's high variable on the output quality, and the level of control over the result is limited. It would be much better if you could specify elements such as the vocalist, instruments, bpm and style and have those reliably appear in the song! We clearly aren't there yet. When we are, I don't doubt they will appear behind a paywall, but at that point it may be worthwhile spending money.

When Suno first came out I thought it was pretty neat, so I played around with it quite a bit. Never paid for it and I don’t think that would be worth it. It’s a bit of fun to throw silly titles like “Build you own pyramid” or “a handful of feet “ at it, and get something catchy out of it (perhaps 5% of the time?). I tried doing a couple of “cover” versions of songs I liked, but it just wasn’t me, so I stopped. It didn’t work for me at all. I do use ChatGPT for song ideas though, at times, and I’ll use Ideogram for images to use for songs or an album cover.0
