Getaway
I called in sick to work one fine summer day, and with the wife at work and the kids at school I spent the entire day playing music and singing to the empty house. The only interruptions were the birds singing and the little neighborhood toddlers playing in their back gardens. It was more revitalizing than some week-long vacations I've taken! And I got this song out of it.

Getaway
Early on a lovely summer's day, I'm on a getaway
Listen to the little children play, I'm feeling a-ok
Just needed some hours to water the flowers and sing
Whistling along to see what kind of song it would bring
Fly a kite into the tallest tree, then come climb with me
I'd love to see the sights that we could see as two absentees
We'll climb ever higher and we'll never tire of the view
I love every component of every moment with you
I just needed a working day
To work on things that had gotten away
Just a handful of business hours
To finally find, all along that the business is ours

Oh, that is just brilliant, it really is.
One of the best I've heard in a while.
There's nothing about this song that's not outstanding.
"We'll climb ever higher
And we'll never tire of the view
I love every component
Of every moment with you"
Love it
Gonna play it again an' again an'.............

Good song, Matt. I hear a Beatles influence, and other influences from the sounds of the late 60s. Nice work!

The internal rhymes are clever, and the piano playing is super! Nice, cheery, melodic, all good. "Melodic retro-pop" fits nicely as a genre. So tough to have to classify everything these days. I'd just call it a nice radio-friendly song. Really well done.
Best,
Tom

Lovely song, really catchy, many good lines but this one is wonderful for me "Just needed some hours to water the flowers and sing"

That's nice. Lovely piano groove to get things going.
This put a smile on my face:
Just needed some hours
To water the flowers and sing
The melody in the Bridge works well too.
In the break you might consider switching away from keys to guitar or even a brass instrument just to change things up.
Good track!

Ooh, that's a good thought I wish I'd had! Well, if I ever go back for a remix I'll keep that in mind.
