Harrison's Hotel © 2024 Finnajane MacLeod
you come stumblin' home on a hot August night
stinking like whiskey and looking to fight
smell of Jack Daniels hangin’ in the air,
sittin’ here wonderin’ how do you dare?
give it up now or be a lonely fool
give it up now before I lose my cool
Harrison's Hotel
it's a place you know well
Harrison's Hotel
a little bit of heaven and a lot of hell
Harrison's - where you like to spend your whole pay
the place you crave to go at the end of day
No money left over to pay the rent
nothing left to eat your money all spent
give it up now or be out on the street
sleeping in the gutter won’t seem so sweet
Harrison's Hotel
it's a place you know well
Harrison's Hotel
a little bit of heaven and a lot of hell
<solo>
Fell in love at Harrison's when we first met
that's a day long ago I've come to regret
your booze and neon friends are a losing game
left here picking up the pieces of your shame
Tired of your whiskey stealing the show
time has come around to let you go
Harrison's Hotel
it's a place you know well
Harrison's Hotel
a little bit of heaven and a lot of hell

Well, I'm a sucker for a bar room song and this one certainly hits the spot! Lovely vibe and I really enjoyed the guitar solo. I can imagine a full band pumping this one out in a smokey venue - if such places still exist!. For me this sits somewhere between country and rock n roll and I love it. Your vocal style really works here. I'm not familiar with BIAB, but you clearly know how to make it work for you. Bonnie Raitt? Yeah, I can hear the influence.
Can you tell, I like this one?!!😀

Thanks Chris! I appreciate the kind words! Yeah, BIAB is fairly easy but can be extremely complex. I have only scratched the surface of its capabilities. If I had the time and energy, I get a real band together 😃 But I think those days are behind me.

This was great, your vocals made it and the way Chris described it is how I'd like to hear it, with a full band behind you. Nicely written lyrics too. Made me feel like I frequent the place.1

Oh yeah, definitely got that 80s blues rock style going on. I actually would’ve said Linda Ronstadt, like her late 70s rock and roll albums, it has that sort of sound to it. Especially if you added a piano in there. But I can hear Bonnie Raitt too. One suggestion is maybe adding some harmonies or another instrument to the chorus to really make it pop. It sounds great as is though!1

Classic, great storyline, lovely words and rhymes. Who does it sound like? Someone who knows their stuff!
well done.

@BeatlesFan64 -- Yeah, I really need to get some harmonies on my choruses! It was suggested on the last song I posted. Keeps slipping my mind. Glad you enjoyed it!
@sidshovel - Thank you Sid! 😃

Good song, got a classic feel to it.
"a little bit of heaven and a lot of hell" is a lovely line.
I'd like to hear you really sing out on the chorus and linger on some of those notes, make the chorus the star of the show.
Very enjoyable listen.

@Plain_Jane Another very cool song! Nice groove, clever lyrics, and super good vocals as usual! I can definitely hear the Bonnie Raitt inspiration in the song. Nice work! 😀
Cheers,

Lots of character in your vocal and lyrics here, and very fun to listen to ! . . . as RDM alluded to, you could probably upsell that chorus more with more sustained notes in the vocals. . . and certainly some harmony vocals would really top it off, but a good song is here I think.

I took the advice given about changing up the chorus. I still may add some other stuff but here's a re-do of the chorus....all else remains the same.

@Plain_Jane I enjoyed the first version, and this one is even better! Your great vocals and the additions to the chorus are the highlights of your song. Great atmosphere! 😎
I think my favorite two lines among your lyrics are:
Fell in love at Harrison's when we first met
that's a day long ago I've come to regret
That conveys the lament expressed in a good Bonnie Raitt song. Nicely done! Keep the cool songs coming! 😀
Cheers,
Joseph

I agree with icystorm that this version is better. The lyrics are superbly crafted and timeless making the song great. At least that's my noted comment. (pun intended)
Yes, keep em comin!

Nice to hear this track again. And yes, this second version is better. The chorus sounds stronger. It's so memorable.
Brilliant.😀

Thanks for listening to the updated version! Yes, I take feedback to heart. I'm definitely interested in improving my songwriting!

I like that you picked the hotel as the focus of the song. I love to listen to songs with interesting viewpoints.
To me, that makes it better than a Classic.
