Proposal for Massive Collaboration

I was just thinking about what was said upon my first posts about collaboration and wonder if anyone has attempted something like what I propose below?
A group collab, meaning not just one or two people inputting toward lyrics, but 20 or more. Yes, this would pose a challenge with so many different perspectives having a voice in the lyrics, but comparatively, wouldn't it provide more possibilities for the lyrics to evolve and encourage more engagement between the members?

Happy to give it a go. I think some level of coordination might be required. ie do people submit a line, a verse? How would a lyric be edited, lines removed if it's too long? Things like that.
More people will likely generate more and different perspectives. As you noted, that can have cons as well as pros in terms of consistency but almost certainly will create something no individual would come up with.
I think it would be an interesting experience if nothing else.
If you are willing to coordinate it, feel free to go ahead!

It's an interesting idea. I've taken part in collaborations where I've put music to others folks' lyrics, but nothing like this. Yeah, I'd give it a go.
What about the music? AI or real?

I too have put music to @cmaja's lyrics. It was a few years back on the old site. I'd certainly be interested if it's "real" music as I'm not sure what the legal stance is on replicating AI stuff.

Collaborating on a song with a larger group of 10-20 people can be a complex thing. Below I've tried to layout a structured process that we can follow to ensure a smooth collaboration, consistency, and effectively guide us through writing and revising the song together:
Bear in mind that I have never collaborated with anyone on writing anything and that I have no musical background, only a background in poetry and literature. Yes, I have posted a couple of 'song lyrics' here but they were hastily modified from my poetry, not specifically written as lyrics.
I tried to break it down into a step process but this is a basic framework for us, nothing is set in stone, so feel free to input your thoughts, ideas, criticisms etc... I am open to all possibilities.
#### Step 1: Initial Planning and Goal Setting
- **Define the Purpose**: First we must discuss what message, theme, or emotion the song should convey. Once agreed upon we can proceed forward.
- **Establish Roles**: We then should determine who will facilitate the process (e.g., a lead writer or project manager), who will handle administrative tasks (e.g., scheduling meetings, recording ideas), and designate note-takers as needed. ( I am not sure about meetings as this is a forum and our ability to 'meet' is limited here, but we can ad-lib this as we go)
#### Step 2: Brainstorming Session
- **Group Brainstorming**: Instead of trying to gather everyone for a brainstorming session where each person can contribute ideas, I'd recommend we input our ideas here below. We can use the QUOTE feature to keep them together. For the other ways to brainstorm we could use:
- Google Docs for our remote collaboration if this forum is insufficient.
- **Idea Submission**: Each person can write down themes, phrases, or lines inside the doc focused on capturing raw ideas.
#### Step 3: Establishing a Framework
- **Song Structure**: Agree on a basic structure for the song.
- **Assign Sections**: Divide the song into sections and assign small groups or individuals to work on specific parts (e.g., Group A writes the verses, Group B focuses on the chorus).
#### Step 4: Writing the Lyrics
- **Collaborative Writing**: Designated groups will have time to draft their assigned sections, focusing on:
- Conforming to the core theme
- Keeping language concise and consistent
#### Step 5: Review and Revisions
- **First Draft Approval**: Once individual sections are drafted, we can review the entire song together.
- **Feedback and Revisions**:
- Keep feedback constructive to enhance collaboration.
- **Assign an Edit Committee**: Forming a smaller group (3-5 members) that can take on the task of incorporating feedback and revising the song. These member should be the ones with the most experience with song writing and music. They will ensure the song is cohesive and maintains its integrity.
#### Step 6: Refining the Lyrics
- **Line Check**: Each section or line should be scrutinized for clarity, rhythm, and rhyme. The edit committee can ensure that the lyrics flow well together.
- **Consistency Review**: They will check for consistency in voice, tone, and style. Maybe using a shared doc for the revisions keeping the margin notes available to other revisers.
#### Step 7: Finalizing the Song
- **Final Group Review**: Once revisions are made, everyone will look it over for a final review. We can then make any needed tweaks to it.
- **Approval Process**: How we will decide on a consensus or voting approach for the final lyrics will also be a challenge as with so many people inputting the ideas etc... we need to have a way that brings everyon together on the songs completeness.
#### Step 8: Arrangement and Composition
- **Musical Input**: Here we will need to rely on the musicians in the group, working together to create a melody and arrangement to complement the lyrics. I will bow out of this completely and let those with the knowledge to decide how this is best handled. (I would guess it is similar to the writing or lyrics but musically)
Let me know what you all think, if no one is interested in this we can scrap the whole thing, but I think and believe this challenge would stretch the minds limits and bring the community closer by providing a sense of group accomplishment.

Forgive me, but this all looks very complicated. I like the idea and I would gladly contribute...but I think we'd need to keep it simple. Also, there isn't a large number of people on the forum at the moment so drumming up enough interest might be a problem. I suggested a challenge a while ago, but there wasn't enough interest at that time. I'll keep looking in and I'll certainly join in if it gains momentum.

I agree o the complexity of this and it is possible I am overthinking it. I was taking a stab in the dark with laying out the process.
When I write, I just write. It isn't a process until it was written then I revise later. I didn't think that would be an effective way to do such a large collaboration.
With the mention of not many active on the site, maybe my idea was lofty.
Asking if we can delete this thread.
Maybe we can just to an active member collab and figure it out along the way. ??

No need to delete the thread. It's a great idea. Let's hope I'm wrong and we get loads of interest. I'd certainly join in if we do.

Then what style of song would be suitable?0

Judging by views/song, in general CW and Rock come out on top.
Including the clever sex, that means male/female duet.
popularity sample: shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper

So how does it work in actuality? Do I post a lyric or stanza and you all add to it etc? CW is not something I am proficient in at all as my choice of CW is very selective. Yes, Cash and Nelson or Williams but also John Anderson Seminole Wind are the few select artists I have familiarity with.

I'm not volunteering to go first, but maybe one of us could just post a couple of lines of lyrics - maybe even a first verse - and just see if anyone decides to take it further. No specific formula..the genre/subject could evolve as we go.
I'm happy to add a line or two, or maybe I should wait until we're ready for some music and collaborate with any musicians who are up for the challenge.
It might work, but it depends on enough people being interested.

Here are some ideas using different themes/topics. grab one and run with it.
sweet little sin, petite and thin,
luring me close with, every whim
enter your chamber, leading to danger,
after your touch, no longer a stranger
------------------------------------------------------
I walk a lonely street where, the shadows bless the lamps
passing by the homeless, sheltered in their camps
strangers hurry by, their thoughts tied to woes
witnessing their endless stream, of meaningless intros
------------------------------------------------------
the silent whisper calls your name,
beckoning to end the game.
the night is creeping into your room,
do not fear that ebon gloom.
-----------------------------------------------------
She's got soft lips and curvy hips,
her gentle touch by fingertips.
Our desire grows a restless night,
Her breath heavy she loudly sighs.
----------------------------------------------------
V1
Love is a star, glowing in the darkness.
A flower, blooming bright in a field of starkness.
The nugget of gold that refuses to tarnish,
Glimmering glow in the bar's polished varnish.
V2
Love is a gun, positioned at the head.
Wrapped in its silence, hearing echoes of dread.
Staring at the sunshine, hanging by a thread.
Unknown is the position; where were we led?
